Draco checked himself in the mirror one last time before leaving his flat. The picture he presented was very attractive, if he did say so himself. Dressed in black trousers and a charcoal turtleneck which enhanced the grey of his eyes, and with his blonde hair softly playing against his face, he hoped that Harry would finally take notice. He dabbed a bit of cologne on for good measure and left feeling confident and determined.
As he entered the pub, Draco looked around for Harry. As his eyes settled on the man, he found him talking animatedly with a handful of adoring fans, as well as the weasel, Granger and Longbottom.
A twinge of irritation ran through him at the sight. Harry seemed so comfortable and happy with them. He was no longer the self-conscious boy whom Draco had known at Hogwarts. Now he was self-assured and seemed quite comfortable with his Quidditch fame.
Why exactly the scene bothered Draco he wasn't sure. Then it came to him. It felt just like it had back in school. He was on the outside looking in on Harry's world, longing to be a part of it - albeit for different reasons at that time - but never invited to do so. He looked at the weasel and felt … envious of him, of his relationship with Harry.
Draco turned to leave the pub, feeling inexplicably like his eleven-year-old self again, longing for friendship, fearful of rejection, and suddenly not wanting to compete for Harry's attention.
"Draco!" Harry called as he looked up and saw him. "Come join us."
