Harry howled with laughter. "You got kicked out of the house for snooping?"

"Yes, well, Mother wasn't impressed."

"But you were there when I arrived a short time later."

"I was confined to my room," Draco said quietly.

This made Harry laugh even more. "You were grounded?" he asked incredulously. The thought of a fully-qualified wizard, an adult, a man who up until fairly recently had been operating under the direction of the darkest wizard of all time, being grounded by his mummy was uproariously funny.

"Laugh it up, Potter."

"Aw, c'mon Draco. You've got to admit it's funny."

"Yes, well, perhaps for you."

"Well it serves you right, snooping for presents. Why would you do that?"

"What do you mean, why? Because I want to know what she got me for Christmas."

"Christmas is only a couple weeks away. Can't you wait?"

Draco pouted. "I've never been all that good at waiting. Besides, I'm not all that fond of surprises."

"What?" Harry couldn't believe his ears. "But the surprise is half the fun!"

"Surely you snooped for presents when you were a boy," Draco challenged.

"No, I never got any presents, so there was nothing to snoop for."

"Shit, Harry, I'm sorry. I forgot."

"No need to be sorry. It isn't your fault my aunt and uncle are prats."

"I'd like to meet them in a dark alley some day."

Harry chuckled. "Not likely. Besides, I've washed my hands of them. Now back to you. Why is it you can't wait two weeks to --"

"Moving on," Draco said, abruptly changing the subject, "what's this about you telling the she-weasel that you're through?"

Harry allowed the change of subject, reserving in his mind the right to bring it up again at a later date.

"Like I said the other day, I just don't feel that ... I dunno ... passion, I suppose. And I'm not willing to settle for anything less, so I had to tell her. I mean, it's not like we were really together any more anyway, but she obviously thought we were, or that we would be again. She tried to kiss me --"

"Tried? It looked like she was doing more than trying," Draco pointed out.

"Well, whatever she tried, I stopped her. And then we talked."

"I can't imagine that went well."

"No, it didn't. But it had to be done."

"And now it's over?"

"Now it's over."

"And how do you feel about that?"

Harry searched his mind for what he really felt. He'd assumed that he would feel remorse, guilt, maybe even a bit of panic at the thought of doing something so final. But he didn't feel any of those things. As the knowledge hit him, of how it was he felt about the end of his relationship with Ginny, Harry gave Draco a small smile.

"Relieved."
