He can’t stop staring at his face in the mirror.

He can’t stop staring at his face in the mirror.
The suture on his right cheek is red and angry. When he runs his finger over it, he can feel the thread they used to stitch him back together, and winces at the sting of pain. She got him good there. If he hadn’t jerked his head back, this could’ve been way worse.
Definitely gonna leave a scar, though.
His leg is another thing entirely. He barely made it out of bed this morning, every time he takes a step the pain races from his injured thigh all the way up to his hip. He’s being careful now, holding onto walls and furniture for support, but he’s worried that his race against time yesterday did some serious damage. And what did the guy at the hospital say? Cut flexor tendon. Getting surgery for that might not be easy with the way things stand.
And the way things stand now is that he made a mistake. He let one slip through his fingers, and he didn’t even notice until that journalist basically shoved his face into it.
And then he didn’t even manage to kill her the second time around.
But try as he might, he can’t feel bad about that one. Because she saw. She saw, and she didn’t look surprised, or shocked, or any of those things people looked when they watch reality crumble around them for the very first time. The way he had probably looked the first time.
The wise thing would be to get rid of her of course. Approach her again, with less confidence and a better plan this time. Put her somewhere nobody will ever find her. The case is already wide open, but things will be a lot less dangerous without the key witness.
But he can’t forget the look on her face when she watched herself change in the window.
He already knows he won’t do the wise thing.
