The one piece of real jewelry I've ever bought for myself (oh, wait, one of the two-- I bought some silver-and-amber earrings once, which I think counts) is a pearl necklace with matching earrings.

However, they're cultured. And half of them were grown in thumbnail-sized flat discs. And the flat ones are dyed bronze-green, and the teardrop ones dyed maroon and mauve and lots of red-bronze colors and strung in prickly little hedgehog shapes with Swarovski crystal beads.

Does that still count as pearls?

pearls are always 'in' in DC....I don't think they ever go out of style on the conservative side of town.

I saw some HUGE pearls the other day, however...it looked so 80's, I didn't particularly like it. Also: thoughts on the half-jacket? Let me see if I can find a pic....Here we go:
