Well, I just had to write two scenes that were a little different, but both of them involved conversation:
One was a serious conversation between two of the characters and the other was a scene where two of the others got drunk. Neither of these were romantic in nature either, though both of them involved a "heart to heart" as it were. You could do something with that.
And there is the old "kill off a character" routine or, my favored, maim a character. While not killing, giving them a permanent injury that they need to learn to work through, or even a temporary one. I suppose to make this more generic, you could refer to it as if in the past. For instance, a horrific incident in the past that the characters managed to work through or another character explaining difficulties that their friend went through to another character as an explanation for something.
