No news is good news, or maybe it's simply no news. I'm neither content nor discontent but I'm concerned about letting myself get bored now that it's summer time. I need to organise a reading group, someone organised a Deleuze one but I didn't buy the book and it starts on Thursday 6pm in New Cross at which point I will be at work and I can't be ( Read more... )

Have you seen The Seventh Seal? That's something I've watched that I'd call arty/serious that I actually enjoyed. It's subtitled though and has a pretty depressing subject (it involves playing chess with Death...)

Keeping with the subtitle theme I recently watched Goodbye Lenin! but I'm not sure if you'd call that arty. It also has a few light hearted moments but it did make me think quite a lot about the lengths someone could go to to make sure they keep another person happy.

I need to watch more Bergman because so far that's the only one I've seen and I was surprised how much I liked it. I think I was expecting to hate it because the person who recommended it to me was one of those people who namedropped obscure films all the time and it got on my nerves!

Aye I can agree with cheesy! It's not something I'd want to watch over and over like I do with Everything is Illuminated (even though that one makes me cry every single time!)

haha yeah films those types of people recommend can actually be quite good, which is irritating when you're like me and you like to get on the pop culture high horse with them. i guess with any obscure-ish films there will be classics and they will be really good, like seventh seal is pretty well heard of,, as is that bergman really.

awh yeh i liked everything is illuminated, that was a lovely movie, they did really well with it i think, well done them.
