Детская игрушка имеет такую же длительную историю, как и история человечества. Вероятно, игрушки появились одновременно с людьми.
И эволюционировали вместе с развитием цивилизации.

Технические новинки быстро находили и находят отражение в развлечениях для детей. Изобретение и введение в обиход автомобиля привело к появлению игрушек в виде машин. В том числе таких, на которых маленький человек, подражая взрослым, мог разъезжать, нажимая на педали и приводя тем самым свое транспортное средство в движение.
Производились как "обычные" педальные автомобили, так и специальные: например, пожарные - очень любимые юными героями, или машины в виде железнодорожных локомотивов, а также различные прицепы, приспособления, атрибуты для детских транспортных средств. Были даже волшебные машины, являющиеся одновременно парикмахерскими детскими креслами.

French unknown manufacture of a Renault Pedal Car with a chain driven pedal action. Probably about 1905, finished in red with some yellow trim, single acetylene headlamp to centre of bonnet, cream upholstered seat and starting handle. Spoked wheels with solid tyres, wooden steering wheel. Steering requires a little attention but not a serious problem. Overall length 50", width 18" and height 34". Despite its age much in remarkably original condition. A very rare example of an early French Child's Car - overall Fair to Good. via

A splendid example of an early Child's non powered Car. Originally finished in red although much of the paint has now rubbed off - overall however it is sound. Overall length 50", width 24" and height 22". Condition is generally Fair, could be made into a splendid example. via

Has been refurbished to some extend with a few replacement parts including doors and does still require a little attention. Overall length 38", width 16" and height 27". An example of an early Pedal Car that with a little restoration could be very attractive. One of the smaller earlier Triang range. via

Originally finished in brown with darker brown lining and one opening door. Wooden steering wheel, wooden screen surround. Overall length 48", width 26" and height 30". Overall condition is Good. A fine example of an early Triang Pedal Car. Rarely comes to the market. via

Finished overall in brown with starting handle. Would benefit from a little more overall restoration although a fine example. This particular Car was bought by the Vendor from the High Sheriff of Essex many years ago. Overall length 5' 2", width 21" and height 34". Overall Good. Rare example of an early Pedal Car. via

Triang 1920s Barbers Car in the form of a 1920s Triang Pedal Car on a hydraulic Barbers chair plinth. Pedal Cars were often adopted for use in Barber Shops in the 1920s in the UK and the United States. It is believed that some Barbers in Sweden still use Pedal Cars in their shop. Pedal Car has been beautifully restored in maroon with red lining, black dish wheels, solid white rubber tyres. Base is of very solid construction with pedals to raise or lower the car hydraulically to the appropriate height, car is bolted to the pedestal. Dimensions of Car are 42" long, width 20" and height 4". The pedestal is 22" diameter and 16" high which can be raised by a further 12" with hydraulic action. A very rare and unusual thing to find these days. Very few have survived. via

Unknown make probably 1930s Child's 4-wheeled Trailer for a bicycle with pressed metal panels, canvas opening roof and metal mudguards. Solid tyres, some 8" in diameter, upholstered seat, a metal rear bumper. Overall length 46", width 20" and height 32" Would benefit from some minor restoration but a nice example of a slightly quirky item. Overall Good. via
