Drive-by art posting and wee PSA

I promise not to harangue my lovely f-list with this stuff - but I want to put in my small but meaningful plug for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month... which is, uh, this month. *points at shiny new October icon*   I'm not sure if this is an observation that is held in other countries but here in the U.S. suddenly the shelves are filled with ( Read more... )

Oooh I love it.

I need to get my doctor to teach me how to do proper breast exams. :/

Gah. I meant to include a link to explain how to do it. I'll edit, but in the meantime, here it is: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/self_exam/bse_steps.jsp

*hugs you*

I went in for a breast exam just a couple of months ago (I was overdue.) Everything was fine, but I should be more diligent, especially since most people on my father's side of the family have died from various types of cancer or related issues (bile duct, ovarian, lung.)

I'm glad things were fine, but yes, please be diligent. It's such a simple thing to do. *hugs back*

Thanks for posting the PSA. My mother was diagnosed pre-menopause (Over 20 years ago now! She's a survivor!), and the combination of that and the various cancers in my family put me in the highest risk category - my ObGyn said, rather off-handedly, "You realize it's one in four, right?" I had my baseline mammogram five years early, at 35, and try to be careful about self-exams... but it's easy to let it slip. It's something that all women should be aware of, and keep a sharp eye on.

I love hearing stories like your mothers! They give me such hope. I was considered relatively 'young' when I was diagnosed at 44 and unfortunately, the younger you are at diagnosis the lower your survival rates are (statistically that makes sense since you have so many more years to try and survive). I'm really glad to hear that you do the self-exams, especially someone in your position. Thanks for telling me about your mother. I'm thinking you may have mentioned it before, but my memory is so untrustworthy anymore. *hugs you and mom*

Yesterday we saw a pink Breast Cancer Dyson vacuum cleaner!

You don't have to give, or buy any pink appliances *g*, but please be aware.

That can never be said enough!

Dija see the pics of KK and the boyfriend at the airport? Like I said, I hate to see actors being pestered like this but she looks so pretty!

Omg! I hadn't seen those yet! Thank you. That one where she looks like she's crying is so sad. :(

Mark has had a few weekend gigs in LA recently -the Viper Room a couple weeks ago (Kristin was there), and I read there was another this past week, but she had to leave because she was being hounded by fanboys.

I still think you should post it.

*hugs*

It's thoughtful and it's interesting to see Lex in an uncharacteristically introspective moment with the objects of his desire in the background.

I did post it. It's under that text as a cut. :)

And thanks again for the input about it.

No, silly... I meant for the character study challenge.

I think it still qualifies, but if you don't think so that's okay too...

Oh..d'uh. Sorry.

The challenge seems to be more for single character studies, and I just felt that this final version really encompassed all 3 characters to me. I explained to boppy already and she understood and agreed.

But thanks again for the input about it. *hugs*
