The darkness bothers Random sometimes.

And when it does, he usually clears his throat and steps up behind her, and slides his hand in hers to hold on. Her skin is pale and warm, and he can always see it, even on moonless nights.

"Next time I try to kill someone for Corwin, remind me not to get caught."

And when his hand finds her own, Vialle settles her head back against his shoulder, because she is certain he will keep her from falling. Sometimes they simply stand there, and nothing needs to be said.

Other times...

"You did what you thought was best, husband." And she loves him for it, even if deploring the necessity of such violence.

"Corwin would be good for this place."

His voice drops to almost a whisper. It would not be wise to be overheard.

"He is one of the best of us, Vialle, and I do want what's best. I just... never meant for you to be drawn into this tangle."

"I do not know him as well as you, and as such will not render a judgement on him." Yet. It is apparent from the tone of her voice that Vialle believes, however mistakenly, that they will survive this ordeal someday.

Out of deference to his mindset, her tone also drops to something approximating his own. "Random, it grieves me that you yet take the mantle of blame for my presence here on your shoulders. It was I who made this choice, and I who will stand by it."

Pause.

"I love you too much not to."

This is not an admission she often makes, knowing his heart belongs to another, but this time Vialle can't help it.
