I have only made one corset for me (and helped fit another one for someone else, but that was a failure) Anyhow, the deal is I plan on using the coated steel bones. I figure I need the extra support. The question then becomes how do you decide how many and what lengths of boning to get? How did/do any of you all do it, if you've used the steel ( Read more... )

Only way I know how to calculate the length is to draft up the corset, and measure the channels. Get bones 1/2"-3/4" shorter than each channel. To devise the right width of channel, stitch them 1/8" wider than your intended bones. Draw the stitching lines right onto your fabric, then sew along the lines.

just a new corset in general so that I have one that fits right. So, not for any particular outfit.

It looks like a drunken freak with a wandering eye is being repeatedly smacked usside the head with a baseball bat while trying to count the rings on a hypnodisc.

Bwahahaha...what an image!! I frequently cheat by drawing my sewing lines on the fabric in chalk or soap or something. :)

(still giggling)
