Summary: Gabriel comes up with a better plan to take on Lucifer. It involves bringing Dean, Sam and Cas with him on a trip to visit his old friend Samuel Colt and convince/harass him to make a new Colt, one that can kill archangels. Lucifer isn't exactly happy with this plan. It's the Apocalypse 1830s style, with horses, saloons, rotgut whiskey, and quick draw gunfights between angels and humans. Plus Cas in a cowboy hat. This is my first big bang, my first exchange in this fandom or any other, and it couldn't have gone any better. I knew, as soon as I saw the summary, that it was the story I wanted to illustrate, and that was borne out as soon as epicycles sent me the first draft.
I'd been wanting to draw SPN AU Wild West for a while, and I'd given up on the idea, so this was perfect. epicycles wrote a great, engaging story with really clear, easy-to-visualise scenes that almost made me over-commit. Seriously, I could just keep on drawing.
Thanks go out to epicycles for the whole enchilada. To my betas, trolleys and slavelabour who were very patient and very helpful with suggestions and nudging, and pointing out the obvious things I should have seen, and the subtle things I just didn't get on my own. Gratitude also goes out to the SPN peeps of b.org, for ideas and cheerleading. All shortcomings that remain are mine, all mine.
(background notes: If you're thinking that the Boys look reasonably normal, and Cas looks like he came out of a Spaghetti Western--did we mention Gabe's involved? Okay.)

(background notes: I was advised by experts and had it confirmed by epicycles that the Impala would indeed be a Friesian, despite my initial sketches of Thoroughbred)
He takes a step back, involuntarily, but Crowley knots a hand in his waistcoat and holds him in place
(background notes: this is where epicycles reveals epic nerdery on a level with my own, by dressing Crowley like Badger. Shiny!)
Across the flames is Dean Winchester, in jeans and cowboy boots, with a gun belt slung low on his hips and a distinct carved handle just visible in the holster.
(background notes: It's not a Western without a standoff, is it? I couldn't *not* draw this scene, and the SPNness of it makes it all the more fun)
Man, I could keep drawing, seriously. There's just so much more in the story that I could sink my teeth into. Time totally flew, and I had such fun doing it. I've never worked with strangers before, or had "real" betas, and it was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to do it again, and I hope it's always this cool.
