Salon of the Dead (Season 5, Episode 20)
Domestic Dair. Adorable. This is what I'd love to see more of. And I'm not just talking about Dair. I want to see more domestic scenes, more scenes that indicate that these characters are capable of having a normal, healthy relationship. Of course, I'm not saying that I want an entire episode filled with them sitting around and having tea, but would it be so difficult to stick a scene of that in here or there? Give us a little hope, c'mon.
It's nice to know that Dan and Blair never change. Always bantering. Deodorent. Psh. Even though Dan and Blair are dating, Blair still can't help but tease him. So cute.
Go Lola. I love how she tells Serena (right to her face) that Gossip Girl's become irrelevant. And inadvertently says that it's because of Serena that Gossip Girl has fizzled out. And it's completely true too. Serena won't post about herself and she says she doesn't want to hurt anyone, except she does. Because Gossip Girl needs to hurt people to be relevant. That's the point of gossip. If no one responds to gossip, it goes away, thereby making it irrelevant. If Serena doesn't want to post anything gossip worthy (read: about her), then no one will read it. Everything the media creates is controversial for a reason. If it's not controversial, no one cares. If Serena wants to be miss goody-two-shoes, then she shouldn't be surprised that no one cares about Gossip Girl anymore. S, think about it. Why did you read Gossip Girl? For the quality reading material? I think not.
Lola says she has an audition. Serena's response, "Of course, break a leg!"
...Literally, right S?
Noooo! No road blocks for Rufus and Lily! They're the only stable couple! Which is really saying a lot for the show if the only stable couple consists of a millionaire widow/divorcee and her trophy husband who fell in love twenty years ago but didn't get together because the widow couldn't give up her inheritance and they still can't agree on anything.
*glances up* Yes, this show definitely has problems.
However, who can deny that Rufus is right in saying you shouldn't lose yourself in a relationship? Dan shouldn't lose himself for a relationship with Blair. The "I wanna be me"/"And I wanna be me" has got to be the most adorable conversation I've ever seen on this show.
Seriously. What's the secret that made everyone afraid of Gossip Girl? And how old is Gossip Girl if she knew the secret of who Chuck's mother really is???
I can't believe Serena sabotaged Lola! Sabotaging other people's futures for revenge seems to be Serena's specialty. First it was Blair and Yale, and now it's Lola and her audition. Really, why do people even speak to you, S? I felt so bad for Lola when she learned her audition was cancelled! No one deserves that. Serena doesn't seem to grasp the idea of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. When is Lola ever going to get an audition with Lars von Trier again? And when was Dan going to get another interview with whoever it was (that he skipped to wait for Serena) again? She's Serena van der Woodsen, so she can get a million chances. Normal people don't get that. You can't ruin someone's life because you're feeling vindictive. And then she looked so smug! I can't even look at her. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice because she's the face of Gossip Girl.
Apparently Cecily von Ziegesar loves the "new bitchy S." I can't even put what I'm feeling into words. Now I remember exactly why I prefer the TV show to the books.
"The apartment just doesn't seem like home without you in it."
...
"I like that apartment a lot, but I love you."
I love them. I love them so much. It's moment like this that I realize maybe some couples on the UES can manage to stay married. Of course, then the end of the episode happens, and my dreams are promptly dashed. Lily cut Rufus off? What the hell. I've lost any remaining respect I had for you, Lily.
You know what? I love Lola. She figured out Serena's Gossip Girl. On her own. She's amazing. Too bad I only started liking her in her last episode. She's smart too! To know when she's gotten in too far and realize she needs to leave this world.
I love how when Blair asks the Dair doppelgangers (because they're not important enough for me to remember their names) to have lunch, she says, "Lunch?" then turns to Dan for approval. She doesn't lead Dan by the hand and she doesn't expect Dan to lead her. The relationship is equal. Equality. Now is that so hard?
Nate, darling, I love you dearly. I really do. But you couldn't keep a fucking secret if your life depended on it. How are you still alive? And what on earth gave you the idea that bringing Chuck to Dan and Blair's coming out party would be a good plan? I don't care how good a friend Chuck is. You just don't do that.
"I really want us to have a chance at being successful tonight, if she's there, we'll both be distracted."
Do you realize how sad it is that Blair's best friend can't be present if Dan and Blair want a chance at surviving?
Random nurse who was on duty the night of the accident. What happened to client confidentiality? You do realize you're not supposed to give out information like that to total strangers, right? Right??? Her telling Serena that Diana was there on the night of the accident is fine. But telling Serena that she gave blood then ran out? What the fuck? When she wouldn't even tell Chuck, the man who received the blood transfusion, who gave him blood. What is wrong with you?
How is Diana Chuck's mother? How does this make sense? I mean, I guess it makes sense since they explained it. But Diana does not look old enough to be Chuck's mother. No way. They totally pulled this out of nowhere just for some extra drama. Diana slept with Nate. She walked around in front of Chuck wearing lingerie. Ew. Just. I need to scrub my brain. Although I have to say, props to Elizabeth Hurley for playing that scene so well. I'm so used to her being seductive and scheming that it was a very pleasant surprise to see her being genuine. I really like it. If only for that reason, I'd like to see where this goes.
Lola had no reason to keep Serena's secret. I know I wouldn't have. Sure Nate would've been hurt, but don't you think he deserves to know that his best friend is the one dishing out the humiliation he and everyone he knows was subject to for years? Do you think he'd approve? Nate deserves to know.
Dan and Blair is the first relationship to truly be a team. Their relationship is their world. Oh god. ASGFDIVOJZWPBX. I can't. I can't even articulate my feelings.
"You're the only it girl that matters. You see to that yourself." Lola. I love you. I really do. So proud of her.
Dair banter in bed. My life is complete.
Preview:
We're back to Chuck drama? With his mother? Again? Except new real mother this time? Gah. Just stop. I thought it was hilarious Chuck had Nate sleuthing. Chuck, sweetie, don't you realize Nate doesn't have a lying bone in his body? If you want reconnaissance, you're gonna have to do it yourself. I'm all for you figuring out all your issues with Diana, but can't you just, oh I don't know, open your mouth and ask? God, are all Upper East Siders allergic to honesty or something?
So that was all hilarious until Chuck said, "I don't know which one of us this is more awkward for." Then I remembered that Diana is Chuck's mother. And then I promptly wanted to scrub my brain again.
