Father and the Bride (Season 5, Episode 12)
One thing I must get out. I adored the ending. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and the same time. But more about that later. Blair and Beatrice. Blair, you're glad that Beatrice is there? For reals? Did you see her face? She looked like she swallowed a lemon. What happened to the Blair who intuitively knew when people didn't like her? Cuz this isn't her.
Why are none of them in college anymore? Chuck never went, but Blair, Serena, and Nate did! They were all at Columbia! And Dan! Why isn't Dan at NYU? They're not on vacation, right? That ended at the beginning of the season when they all went back to New York. That's how Serena's summer job turned into a permanent job. I mean, Blair's planning a wedding, she's obviously not going to school. Serena... is also obviously not going to school. And Nate is running the Spectator, so I highly doubt he's going to college. What happened? I'm very disappointed.
Serena, did you forget why you and Dan broke up? Because those reasons are still there. They haven't disappeared just because Dan's not in love with you anymore. S, you only want something when it's completely out of your reach, don't you? Or just if it's Blair's? Dan gave her so many chances and she just kept pushing him away, She even went as far as to say she was "testing" him to see if he would still be there. Does that sound like someone anyone would want for a girlfriend? The guy's devoted. The girl runs. The guy doesn't want her. The girl latches on like a leech that just won't fucking let go. Serena. Let. Go.
Dan's not hers anymore! And she knows he's in love with her best friend. Why would you keep pursuing him? Just cuz she's Serena Van der Woodsen. Oh right. I forgot. That justifies everything. First it was Nate. Now it's Dan. Do you notice a pattern here? I know Dan was technically hers first. But he's not anymore. The way he looks at her isn't the same. Now he looks at Blair that way. You'd think Serena would see.
I was quite surprised when we found out that the argument between Nate and Serena was staged and that Nate and William were listening to Serena and Tripp's conversation. Wow. No wonder their fight didn't make sense. I can't believe you're accusing Tripp! I have pictures! Wow... most fights on this show are a lot more dramatic. But Serena still completely forgot what Dan asked of her! He asked her to do one thing. Not to put up anything about the two of them in the present. What does Serena do? Put everything up without even considering editing it. As she promised. And then Dan's pitch is ruined and Serena just says, oh, I should take that down like Dan wanted. ...Are you completely daft? The damage was already done! There's no undo button! You can't just delete it and expect everything to be okay! What's Dan? Collateral damage? God, Dan, what are you still doing with her. She doesn't think about other people when she does things. And she's never going to put you before her. Thank god he's over Serena. Compare that to the time Blair outed Asher. She had all the evidence she needed to topple Jenny's precarious throne. All she had to do was hit send. But she didn't. Not without Eric's okay. Because she cared about Eric. Being queen was everything to Blair back then. But she still didn't forget Eric. Eric wasn't even her best friend or a guy she liked/loved! He was just her best friend's little brother! And she still didn't hit send. Serena, on the other hand, posted her blog without a second thought to the guy (who she likes) whose career is riding on the fact that this blog doesn't go up.
I like Beatrice now. Now that she's... well, gone. She regretted what she did and she broke off ties with Father Carvalia. She came to her senses. I can respect that.
Oh yeah. Leighton plays drunk really, really well. Love her.
William - "I raised you to stand on your own two feet!"
Tripp - "No, you raised me to kneel before yours."
As much as I dislike Tripp, I loved him at that moment. That was an epic comeback.
Chuck - "You don't give up on the people you love."
God, seeing that look on Serena's face. She's obviously decided she's not giving up on Dan. As evidenced when she tricks him into going out with her. The advice works in Chuck's case! He and Blair are in love! But Serena? And Dan? No way. You don't love him, S. Don't even try to convince me otherwise. I won't believe it. Not anymore.
But who knew Serena would be chasing Dan for once? Instead of the other way around. For once, Serena can be the one to feel what it's like when the guy she wants is in love with her best friend. In your face.
I was melting when Blair was talking about how perfect Louis' vows were.
Blair - "It's like he peered into my soul. I know Louis loves me, but sometimes I wonder if he understands me. Reading this is exactly what I needed to go into our wedding sure of my choice."
...........................Stop throwing us a bone then yanking it back the next episode! When I saw that part, I thought, "Aw... Louis really is good for Blair." And I was so happy. Then Dan got that fucking note and I want to keep that fucking bone they threw us and I'll huggle it forever and ever and they're never getting it back.
"Thank you for writing my vows."
Whyyyyyyyyy? Why did you have to do that to us? I swear they're enjoying leading us on. They must just be cackling behind the scenes by throwing us some little thing about Dair then refuting it the very next chance they get. Although. This time I think they've actually gone past the point of no return. To acknowledge that Dan wrote Louis' wedding vows and that Dan "peered into Blair's soul," is something you can't recover from as easily as saying the life-changing kiss was because Blair realized she wanted Chuck. Moreover, Louis went to Dan to write the vows. He trusted Dan to do it properly. That's a huge step. For the first time, we have someone who really knows Blair. Someone who truly understands her. And I don't think that's a quality any other guy Blair's been with has ever had. Not even Chuck.
Blair won't go through with the wedding. I'm sure of it. She just won't. Now... let's see who she stops it for? Dan? Or Chuck? Or which one of them stops it for her. The anticipation is killing me.
Always look to your future, but don't forget to look beside you, or you might miss what's right in front of your eyes.
