Arthur's Bane Part Two (Season 5, Episode 2)

Nice slashy follow up to the first part.  Not quite as epic though, I have to say.  Many heart attack inducing moments though.

Spoilers below. )

LMAO I loved this! So funny, and you really thought some of the same things I did. In the legend, I don't really think Arthur and Gwen had an idyllic love, considering she cheats on him with Lancelot, so it doesn't surprise me too much that there doesn't seem to be any real romance between them in this show. (And I like that!) The bromance between Arthur and Merlin is much stronger.
I, too, loved how Merlin was all, "Why didn't you kill him?!" and Arth ur was all nice. Only thing is, I'm wondering what's going to happen with all this frustration Merlin has...Arthur still treats Merlin like he's useless (and is he really still his manservant? You'd think at least he'd be given some better clothes and have more authority within the castle now. I mean, Merlin is no longer a kid, and Arthur takes him on these dangerous journeys and stuff!)
Another thought I had was how Uncomfortable Morgana must be sleeping in that dress! And why is she still ALIVE???

Thank you! Glad you liked it. :)

Arthur and Gwen definitely had a political marriage in the legend. The writers are trying to push this Arwen true love angle on us, but it really does't work. I personally don't think Angel and Bradley have very much romantic chemistry.

I'm disappointed Merlin's still just a servant too. Their relationship has changed some. Arthur definitely listens to Merlin now. But yes! He needs different clothes! Who cares about his clothes being iconic, Merlin deserves better.

Well, it just doesn't make sense to me that he'd still be a regular servant and wearing the same thing. I kept thinking he looked so GOOD in that other outfit in this episode ( ... )

I really wish Merlin would get another outfit too. Literally ANY other outfit. I wouldn't be surprised if Merlin just never bought himself another outfit because Merlin cares way more about other people that himself. In my own headcanon, he sends all the money he makes back to Hunith. But I find it hard to believe that it's never occurred to Arthur to get Merlin some new clothes ( ... )

Gwen's expressions looked weird a lot of times, as did that movement of her shoulder in the scene with Sefa. She also changed 3 dresses in this ep alone. That's all I'm going to say about her for now; the rest is just too painful for discussion. Though... since when did she 'know Gaius too well?'

I'll just busy myself with Merlin/Mordred in the mean time, as that might be the only place dangerous Merlin happens.

I don't think it necessarily translates as knowing somebody too well? YMMV, of course.

Was it just me, or did Gaius' hair look different? Longer, I think, and totally flat on the sides.
I noticed that when Gwaine was running through the tunnel, just before meeting the alien thingy, his hair went from total bedhead to nicely combed. Must've whipped his trusty comb out of his back pocket...

Thank you for this review, I enjoyed it! And the episode. A lot.
And *headdesk*, I didn't even think of Arthur knowing that Mordred is a Druid, which on any show other than Merlin would allow him to draw the logical conclusion that Mordred has magic. Duh.

But yes. Arthur's bane is his big damn heart. I hate this show so much. This is going to give me one heart attack after another. And how is Merlin going to save Arthur from himself?!?
Well, he can't, can he? :(

Platonic or romantic, Arthur is everything to Merlin, and I don't think Merlin could ever love someone the way he cares for Arthur. Arthur is such a huge part of his life that I'm not sure if Merlin could sustain a romantic relationship with anyone other than Arthur.

I think this is more obvious now than it ever was. Arthur is Merlin's whole life, there's just not room for anything or anyone else. I fear for him once Arthur is out of the picture ...

Merlin gets such great expressions on his face when worrying about Arthur. when he looked up from seeing the vision in the water after the old man died, and then Arthur said, "Come on, Merlin, you've seen a dead body before," I just wanted to knock Arthur on the head! Merlin looked so devastated!
And I really thought for a second that Arthur's bane was going to be Merlin! Then what would Merlin do?!!

That would have been a great twist indeed!

Ahh! That would be a horrible twist! Poor Merlin would probably go off himself to protect Arthur.

Yes Guinevere is smarter then both Kings combined but that isn't saying. Poor Kings . Lol

The Queen can also see thought some of Gaius' crap yay Guinevere.

Gwen has always been able to see see the other options and always know there is a choice and can see more than one viewpoint. Before she could only advise Merlin, Gaiuse , Arthur now she with the power she can walk the walk instead. "You always have a choice, even whe you think you don't" It will be cool to see if THAT gets challenged.

You seem really eager to not give credit to Guinevere's strategic abilities, considering we've seen over and over again how she manages to make alternate decisions which ultimately benefit everyone. (4x02...) I don't see why you're so angry with her using Sefa to draw out her father, considering no one innocent was intended to be hurt.

A little biased, I think.

I admit I am a bit biased. Gwen's never been one of my favorite characters and I've had issues with her characterization since season two. I've been trying to be objective, but I guess I haven't been entirely successful ( ... )
