Gone Maybe Gone (Season 6, Episode 1)
Sorry this review is so incredibly late. I've been so busy this past week. Didn't even get a chance to watch the episode till late Tuesday night. I will try to post my reviews every Tuesday or Wednesday. Thursday at the latest. Now... on with the review! (Sorry, no pictures this time. Didn't get the chance to take screenshots.)
Ugh. Must we start with Chair sex? It's like telling us that's what the entirety of this season will be about. Chair, Chair, and more Chair. Lovely.
Dan and Georgina. I like it. I really like their dynamic, strangely enough. I miss Georgina's snark. It's nice having her back. She's a guest star I don't mind so much. I just hope they don't bring Jenny back. This isn't cameo time; this is wrap up the series time.
Nate, wonderful as always. Love him, even if he never has a storyline. C'mon, Nate's worth more than a pretty face and a love interest. Businessman!Nate is awesome. Give him some more screen time, why don't you?
I'm really not liking the way the characters' lines are all linked to Chair sex. It's like they're trying to tell us that no matter who's talking, what the scene is, it's always about Chair. They do remember that the show is called Gossip Girl and not Chair, right?
Seriously, Lily? Serena hasn't responded to your calls/texts in four months and you just assume that means everything's okay? What parent assumes that? When parents don't hear from their kids when they expect to, they assume something's wrong. Like maybe they're DEAD. In a DITCH. So NO Lily. You are a horrible parent. Then again, return to old Serena, old Blair, old Chuck, so I guess old Lily isn't a surprise either. Same old Lily who chooses the men in her life over her children. Chooses money over love. Bart over Rufus. So what's new? Apparently nothing since season one.
Lily, you need your doorman to tell you your daughter's missing? Seriously? You have problems. Vanya is clearer on Serena's whereabouts than Lily.
At least Blair's still being kinda nice to Dan. She's still calling him Dan. I suppose we should be happy she's not calling him Humphrey. So she's been calling him all summer to talk? Can I please hold on to this sliver of hope that Dair isn't dead? Sigh. I want an explanation for those emails. We're not gonna get one though, are we?
"This was the last building my father worked on before he... how do I put this delicately... fake died."
OH GOD. THIS WAS WONDERFUL. IN THE WORST WAY. OMG JUST SHOWS HOW SCREWED UP THIS SHOW IS. PEOPLE FAKE DIE.
"I'm all in."
"And my bet's on us."
The metaphor for Chair's relationship is gambling. How romantic. Because this is clearly better than "Our relationship is our world... we're a team." Of course. Who would want to be a team with their significant other in their own world when you can be gambling instead?
Rufus/Ivy? THE FUCK.
What happened to wanting Serena out? Blair, why do you even still care? If you're going to threaten to break Serena and Blair's friendship, just do it for fuck's sake. Stop teasing us with it and then the next episode going, "Oops! JK! They're besties again!"
"It's noble and selfless, of course you don't."
And this is man you want to be with, Blair. Right?
Steven. Who are you? Where did you come from? I already don't like you. Serena's really got a thing for older guys, doesn't she? You'd think that means she needs someone mature, but god's sake, Serena isn't mature enough to have a real relationship.
"I know you're worried about Serena, but you should try to relax your face, it gives you some very pronounced frown lines."
LOVE.
Well I wasn't expecting that particular cause for Blair's slap. Huh. Thank you for standing up for yourself, Dan. "You chose Chuck, I don't owe you anything." Damn straight.
Vassar? Wisconsin? Who are you... Sabrina?
Yeah, Dan, you deserved that second slap.
Grooms? As in plural? Go Gossip Girl! Sigh. Even if homosexuality is rarely touched on in Gossip Girl, it's nice that it appears in the show occasionally. I miss Eric. Wish he were still on the show.
"You think you have an epic love, but all you have are excuses."
Yeah, you should take that to heart, Blair. Maybe actually think about what Dan's telling you.
"It's okay. I'm not a kid. You're not married."
That does NOT make it okay.
"I don't want to be stuck with you. I want a fresh start. With Steven."
Ouch. Harsh, S.
Serena and Dan essentially both dumped Blair. That's gotta hurt. Contrary to what we want to believe, we need more than love in our lives. No matter what Blair thinks, Chuck alone will not make her happy.
"Blair, you are a distraction."
"I would give up everything for you."
WHAT. More like you would give up Blair for anything.
Blair wears a ring around her neck? You kidding me? No. Stop. This isn't romantic. It's not romantic to have a laundry list of things you have to get out of the way before getting married. Not if you're basically doing them just for the sake of getting married.
Oh god, Ivy and Rufus is not an image I ever want to see again.
