it's a lovely scene from one of my favourite books Angelo is travelling through Provence carrying money for the italian resistance against the austrians as Cholera breaks out and it's piccaresque like that but he meets Pauline in Manosque after being chased unto the roofs and she abandons him. He meets her again at the quarantine and takes her through the roadblock and then a third time and agrees to escort her to Theus, the home of her husband, and the final third of the book is the two of them travelling through Provence, skirting mankind because of the disease and drinking tea as they fall in love and NOTHING COMES OF IT, she returns to her husband and he goes on to Italy and it's one of the most beautiful love stories ever written there's a movie too
oh there is something in this, and like it's been mentioned below, so much more.
i was getting more of a gunslinger essence from the tone, but that could be mostly because i haven't read the other book. it is lovely, though. thank you so much for writing!
the horseman is this wonderful strange book, and it's a love story of longing and duty and strange cups of tea - you know like the relationship in Crouching Tiger, where they so obviously love each other but can not move past it it's a really famous novel, but it's french, and i only read it because i love the movie and of course wiki knows nothing about it, only the movie which is different, but jean paul rappeneau so bloody lovely to look at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113362/ I don't think I'd convert it into a whole fanfic because it's so strange and lovely and quatre would have to be the nurse who died and the whole thing is rife with cholera but i know what you mean about the gunslinger, he's a gunslinger before they had them, our lovely Angelo I'm glad you liked it
