Every night for ten years on New Year's, my brother made me watch Young Frankenstein. I still don't get it but I love that man. He had the most brilliant joy.

Have you seen the originals? Because it doesn't make sense unless you know the source material. As a kid I watched those old horror movies on local TV in the afternoons after school, so when YF came out, I loved it to pieces. (Same with Blazing Saddles - it's far better if you're familiar with the old Westerns.)

I'm so sad, but I love that line about not wanting one less smile in the world. His work has inspired countless smiles and will do so as long as those films exist. Absolute hilarity and talent and sweetness.
