FIC: Five Slices of Cake (Tony, Gibbs, Team, PG)

Sep 07, 2007 22:09

My first challenge entry, an occasion which, in and of itself, also demands cake. A history of how Tony learns to come home and, also, an appreciation of pastry. Primarily Tony and Gibbs, but McGee and Ziva get their slices of cake, too.

Two birthdays, a wake, a promotion, and a wedding. )

my fic, ncis

I read this first over at the flash fiction site without checking out the author. As I was reading, I thought how it reminded me of your work. Then I get to the end, scroll back up, and it is your work. Fantastic job. I truly, truly love your take on Gibbs and Dinozzo...in all of your fics. You capture them better than any other author I've read yet. So please don't ever stop! Fantastic work.

Thank you so much! And I'm so pleased that you recognized my style elsewhere--I'd always hoped that I had a distinct voice and/or take on the characters, but I've never been 100% sure.

Lovely as usual. :) I especially like the one scene at Kate's funeral; I wish I could have seen the look on McGee's face, it must have been priceless. I also like how you frame it with the two birthday scenes, it's a good way to show the way Tony's changed in between. And the last one made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Thank you! The scene at Kate's funeral was also, I think, my favorite of the piece--and while Tony may be my favorite, I love McGee, too, so I had to give him a little action there. And after all that, there needed to be a happy ending!

Oh - this is so beautiful - the thoughts, emotions and CAKE. Cakes are wonderful memory markers and it seems like a perfect companion for a Tony story-telling. I loved each scene - from that lonely one-man eating to the happy team scene in the end. And the seemingly quiet but probably the most profound presence of Gibbs throughout the story was perfect.

Thank you for the fic.

Thanks! I love "Five Things" stories and then, faced with the prospect of writing one, suddenly couldn't think of a concept--until the idea of the cakes came to me. And yes, Gibbs is always in the background--everyone's important, but Gibbs is the axel Tony's world spins around.

Great Tony and Gibbs. I love how you see the humor in them but that isn't all that they are- you see the darkness and sadness as well. Awesome character work and great scenarios plus cake!

Thanks! I always love combining humor with sadness and these characters seem to do it effortlessly, without any of my help!

Because if there ever was a metaphor to life better suited to Tony than cake, I haven't found it.

(You do know, don't you, that you posting more fic makes me loose all my mature and sensible composure and jump up and down like a 3 year old on a bouncy castle, right? No? well you do now :D)

Well, you could always use movies.

And hey, that's pretty much how I respond to feedback! That being said, thank you so much for reading, and I'm glad you liked the story!

Well, you could always use movies.

You'd think, wouldn't you? But it doesn't seem to fit right for me. Except maybe if you asked him he'd know a good movie, in which cake heavily featured, and that would work?
