C'est amusant, la personne juste au-dessus de toi sur ma friendspage parle aussi de Stephenie Meyer, mais de son livre The Host. Je vais la citer, vu que moi, je n'en ai lu aucun: "This book is fantastic. I know there are some friends on my list who will be doubtful of this statement due to their dislike of the Twilight series, but the universe in this novel is completely and totally different from the one in the Twilight novels. Just to be clear, I love the Twilight novels - they're excellent young adult books, in my opinion. The difference with The Host - and the reason why it's not comparable to the Twilight books - is that it's an ADULT novel with a fast-paced plot and a touching, moving, beautiful story about what it means to be human." Donc voilà, si tu cherches un autre bouquin dans quelque temps, je me dis que ça pourrait te plaire...
It's not spectacular writing by any means, but it's addicting. And there is so much potential in the characters. There was an LJ post about a week or two ago from some gal completely bashing the first book. Truly, it was amusing and made me laugh... largely because lots of it was true. But she also missed the mark in not allowing herself to be drawn up in the fantasy of a story. Which is sad. I tend to focus on the intent and the potential in a story.
There is loads of fanfic, LOTS of it is... ick. But some very good stuff has been written as well. I have a folder on my computer of ones that I particularly enjoyed if you want some recs (saves reading the crap). Unlike HP where I tend to try to follow canon closely (except that it is all SS/HG), I prefer the AU fics in Twilight. There were other avenues to explore the characters and the story lines that could've produced a more interesting novel.
I'm interested in any rec' you might have. I've read two of your rec' on fangirl tour and haven't been disappointed at all (quite the contrary). As long as it's well written and Edward/Bella, I don't particularly care if it's canon or not.
I'm glad you finished the books. It's is very addicting, but I also agree with you regarding the writing. In very much the same way that I was sick of all the camping in HP book 7, I was very tired of all the school days when nothing happened. It didn't move the story along, leaving me bereft. Additionally, I think it was in book two when Edwards is gone and this girl is a mess. It seemed over the top and while I can relate (maybe we all can) on some level with Bella missing her love, the writing didn't give it depth or mystery. It was just angst for angst sake.
Anyway, it was a great read! LOL! So hard to love a book so much but to also have such strong negative opinions about it.... Well, now that I come to think of it, it's not so strange at all considering my love/hate relationship with HP.
I agree with you that some fanfics are better than the original story itself. And that the best thing about them is that it's free! I haven't been holding story book in my hand for a quite a long time.
I haven't tried Twilight yet, it is a dark series? From your review, it seems like it is. And it appears that the fourth book is not out yet, is it?
It's more or less dark, well, what else to expect when vampires and werewolves are involved? It's also a romance, said in 1st POV (Bella Swan), but a romance in which people get hurt. The fourth book is due next August.
Yes, I thought as much. What vampires and werewolves stories that are not dark? Hehe. So, this is also a tragic story? I went to it's website just now, and I think in first impression, the covers are awesome. Quite symbolic.
I understand why you wouldn't want to spend money on them. It seems a lot of fans of the series think more or less the same. Try the fanfiction. The links I've given lead to really great ones, especially the ones on CAT. It might help to understand if you could find a summary of book 2 and 3 though before you tackle the fanfic.
I'm afraid I just found it completely uninteresting. I am more than prepared to believe that the fanfic you recommend is better than the source, but I have enough difficulty keeping up with the SSHG stuff!
LOL I'm afraid I'll have to keep a rein on myself too. After all, I need to do some productive work, like the plans for the house paperwork... and the HGSS stuff has great fics and authors as well.

Does it says how many books they'll be?

I won't be reading the others, unless there is nothing else to hand. I certainly won't be spending money on them.
