Why Can't I Write Something Normal? What is Wrong with Me?

Sep 27, 2009 20:11

So now that I have finished the Carsten fic for the time being, I really want to do some Godric -- preferably some fun Godric, like another Godric Goes Out.  The problem is, in my mind I start off with something whimsical like, Godric goes to get the oil changed in his car, or to sign up for a sumi-e painting class at the community college, and BAM ( Read more... )

pairing: eric/godric, writing struggles, wtf

LOL! Porn is good, though!
Ok, I PM'd you. You can use whatever you like, if you like them of course.

My advice is just to go with it. And ignore the naysayers. Write what you like and post with warnings. People can decide if they want to read it or not. Your stories are going to be better if you write, to put it crudely, what gets you off.

(And I promise I'm going to comment on your last two parts of the Carsten fic, I'm just a procrastinating type of person and I have to work up to commenting.)

Well, fortunately I can rely on folks like you who'll read my pornier stuff... and or my hurt/comfort, even if what I'm in the mood to write is some fluff. And you're correct, of course -- I should just write whatever the hell it is that's trying to be written that day (usually I have at least two fics going at the same time, so I can alternate, depending.)

I kind of forgot who was reading Carsten and who was reading Godric! I think Carsten got more fluff readers, unsurprisingly.

Okay, JSYK, I would totally read a fic about Godric going to community college.

Yes, but what if he signed up for sumi-e painting and then got to ... wait. OMG never mind, I just thought of a fic!

Thanks! It's always nice to get comments, that's the only way I know if/when people like something, and I've managed to work some interesting details into my stories that way :)

Hey, so I'm watching this awesome documentary. And they mention rites of passage amongst the Vikings (might be similar elsewhere, but no one else at the time but the Vikings were writing it down). You prove bravery and ruthlessness and such by going on raids. Thor is the god of choice right then, he's about bashing things and power and strength and whatnot.
But then, if you survive the bashing age and return home, you need further development. Suddenly, Thor is a much too simple minded god. So then, you have Odin. Odin is crafty, clever, sneaky, wise. He's what you hope to become after growing from basher youth. "Odin was the god of the elite" to quote the documentary.

Pretty cool theory.
Also makes me wonder about the type of battlefield Godric found Eric on, haha! Eric, are you going on teen raids?

Thanks! I do get the feeling that the TB writers didn't exactly kill themselves over the details... you know, let's make a funeral pyre and a couple costumes and call it a day ... I am SO excited to hear they will do further flashback(s?) with Godric. Man I wish they'd browse my journal for some ideas ;-) BTW I have the Carsten fic, am noodling, will post it eventually. Don't get your hopes up, just an update....

Yeah, the pyre? Not very classy. This means Eric was as redneck as they came, but was well liked? Not deserving of a proper burial, but they liked him well enough not to "leave him for the eagles" as they say on a rune stone.Eric didn't have the brains to rise in ranks? Hehe, Eric was a lower class simpleton.
That's what the TB writers leave me with. Come ON.

No, actually, that's a pretty cool idea for a fic. Godric saw the brawn and liked it, and it took Eric a thousand years to get beyond that brawn and learn to think for himself.

Kjereste Carsten! Heee! Waiting ever so patiently. So, so patiently.
