A Contest!

Apr 05, 2009 09:33

I have a promotional copy of StereoOpticon burning a hole through my hard drive. I thought it might be fun to have a contest for everyone on my flist.
In the comments tell me the name of  your favorite fairy tale and why. Easy peasy. On Friday I'll put all the posters in a hat and draw a winner.

I'll start.

This was my favourite fairy tale. I heard it a long time ago, though a different version of it, spoken around the camp-fire and loved it. This one comes from Barra and from The Celtic Breeze by Heather McNeil. It doesn't have an author, it's one of those tales that have been told and retold for a very long time. I love it because it turns the tale on it's head, shows that the evil Kelpie isn't so evil after all. Or maybe it's about the conquering power of love :p Or maybe I was just obsessed with fairy tales as a kid. I told it to my neice and nephew, I'll tell it to my own children if I ever have any and hopefully so will they.

LOL It _is_ gorgeous. I sent Deena an email squeeing when I saw it. I couldn't help myself.

Twelve Princesses is a great story. They're so sneaky :)

Kay Nielsen, my favorite artist, illustrated a version of Twelve Dancing Princesses. http://www.artsycraftsy.com/nielsen/kn_12dancing.html

Just a quick note - I love that story by George MacDonald! One of my favourite fairy tales when I was a kid was the Six Swans, brothers Grimm.

....and that story is why literacy is so important! :P

Mothers-in-law and step-mothers hoe a hard row with the Brothers Grimm.

So very true. I think it's too bad.

okay, my favorite would have to be Snow White and Rose Red. I liked it as a kid because they were sisters who were similar but different, like my sister and me.

And now I can see paralels with Sense and Sensibility.
