about the not getting the beatles, right

Dec 20, 2010 00:25

So that was a lie. I am a Beatles person. I am totally a Beatles person. It's like--IDEK. Apparently, I didn't know this until deep-sixing my way into remastered albums. Even the stuff I hated is now merely faint dislike that makes me smile when I see Paul's cheery little face. I like things so perky it makes my teeth ache ( Read more... )

I'm not gonna lie, exposure to the White Album in my tender high school years makes it impossible for me to finish the phrase "Happiness is..." with anything other than "a warm gun" in my head. If I'm lucky I can manage not to say it out loud where it can freak people out.

I can't offer anything on the recs front, but I heard the novella Plastic Jesus was supposed to be analogous to the Lennon/McCartney situation. It's on my ever-expanding to-read list.

p.s. The bit about the power of screaming and the energy of it was amazing.

*g* Thank you. There's something about group screaming that's just--incandescent.

"Beautiful Boy" is the one that always gets to me. It's a lullabye he wrote for Sean.

I love this song; it's one of those rare Beatles' tracks that hasn't been played to death. The video is a delight- but also something of a mystery as I can never get any info on who created it or when it was made: "Two of Us".

This is also a find:
"I Met the Walrus"

"In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrators James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina have collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. Nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short and winner the 2009 Emmy for 'New Approaches' (making it the first film to win an Emmy on behalf of the internet)."

Me, age 10, to my Mom: "The Beatles aren't gonna play together anymore?! Why not?"

Mom, an original Hippie (who saw them five times in concert): "Because John and Paul had a big fight and broke up."

Me: "They were boyfriends?"

Mom: "Yep."

I like to think that I came by my affinity for slash genetically.... *g*

John's exact words were "I want a divorce."

Yeah, that rush of energy and all of that is exactly how I felt at the Glee concert last May and it was just sooo amazing. Seeing Adam was similar too, Wish I could have more of that in my life.
