it was just to drive me crazy, wasn't it?

...how is it no one told me Meatloaf released a new album? Did no one understand the first tape--yes, tape, that plastic thing with brown stuff inside that could double as a garrote on a bad date?--the first tape I ever stole from anyone was Bat Out of Hell II?

Song of Madness (youtube link) from Hang Cool Teddy Bear--seriously!--I have no idea ( Read more... )

I adore Meatloaf (saw him in concert in the UK way back when) and I used to play Steinman's Pandora's Box album REALLY LOUD when I was a teenager and emo.

God, the voices those women had!

Wallowing in angst and getting that weird comfort from being so utterly drenched in misery and despair... Good times :-))

I did not know that song could get more over-the-top. I am delighted (I think) to be shown the light.

Did anyone else come out of watching that feeling like classic fairy tales knocked up classic literature and the offspring was raised by Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights before it grew up to be that video?

Yes. But that only scratches the surface! Said offspring apparently also had a fling with the special effects from Supernatural. And reminded me of Howard's End at inopportune moments.

Bat Out of Hell II was the first tape I ever listened to so much it did that weird stretchy warp thing where the sound got all distorted. It added a certain something. I just went and looked up the album to remind myself of some of the song titles (Objects in the Rear View Mirror! May Appear! Closer! Than They Are!), and damn, that cover is totally bitchin'.

Mein gott! Meatloaf played lullabies for me. The intro alone to Bat Out of Hell is among my top five instrumental pieces, if only for dint of familiarity. I can sing many of the songs from memory!

I need this new thing like burning!
