You mean at the end? His didn't let her recognize him and help her regain consciousness. Jim beign human, with donated brain matter, she could recognize him.

Perhaps the most romantic line ever, and so incredibly perfect. Just like the first story, I can't stop reading this one over and over again.

scheudenfreud - Do you mean "schadenfreude" (pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others)?

"Scotty tends to like physics best when it does what he wants it to. It tends to give up after he hits it with a hypospanner a few times." - "hydrospanner" is more usual. (Also, yay Scotty!)
