Title: the road i lost

Summary: the sound of the rusted knife that rang out by my ear was like a sad melody.

jonghyun is a thief by trade, phantom by choice. or was it the other way around? he forgets.
he is a ghost moving through the world of the living: invisible, intangible. as jonghyun becomes the unseen hand that frees pockets of their burdens, he discovers more and more that he is becoming haunted too-the faces of the people whose possessions jonghyun now calls his own only seemed to disappear when key laughed (but even that couldn't hold them back forever).
the only thing that is jonghyun's-the only thing that made him him-is the dagger his sister had given him before she disappeared, the line engraved in the blade had become jonghyun's creed:
stealing coins, stealing hearts, stealing what life has stolen back.
"if i lose this," jonghyun says, holding up the dagger, as much of his own blood imbued in the handle as blood has been wiped from the blade, "there'll be nothing of me left. i'll die."
"don't worry. if you die," key laughs, "i'll bring you back to life."
jonghyun doesn't have the strength to argue, he can only smile and sheath the dagger again. he slips his arm around key's shoulders.
"yeah. you will."
