dull eyes stare at you. you return the gaze, timid and weary, and then let your eyes fall to the ground. the tiles are cold beneath your bare feet.
after a moment and a shaky breath, you allow your eyes to climb back up the broken doll in front of you. it looks like one of those you remember perched on top of your grandmother's closet and out of reach. delicate, with pale, pale skin; perfect. untouched beauty, your grandmother would say.
