"Please... please be careful..." the young boy trailed off, cringing as the beast inside the room could be heard even through the heavy doors and walls - screaming and thrashing about, tearing at the chains, and at himself. He looked up at the elder kemonomimi child getting ready to return inside, still exhausted from the day before. "Please..."
"It's alright Chopper, I'll be fine."
The door was unlocked, and Roronoa Zoro slipped inside, leaving a young Tony T. Chopper alone in the hall to re-lock the door. If only the other's voice wasn't so quiet and weary, then maybe Chopper could have believed it.

A young man named Monkey D. Luffy - who, despite the name, was not actually a monkay of any sorts - had founded Merry Go. It was strange to see such a young child in charge of anything, stranger still if you knew anything about young Luffy's carefree personality. But once you knew the story, things began to make a little more sense. You see, Luffy had a very big heart, and made friends with ease.
These friends had become his family.
And no one messed with Monkey D. Luffy's family.
So when his most dearest brother, a very shy kemonomimi named Usopp, had beed taken away from him, and had had such horrible things done to him, Luffy had taken action. Luffy had kicked ass, and taken names, and made sure those who'd hurt his brother would never even think of such things again. and then, he had come to find out that there where so many more children in need of help in the same way.
Like the one behind this heavy door...
Kemonomimi - humans with animal features.... Chopper shuddered as he turned the key, listening to the faint struggle sounds inside... such people where often stolen away as children, their rarity being an object of lust and fantasy, and many people would pay top dollar to have such a child as a pet and slave...
Desipte that they where still mostly human, they decame second class - and often treated like they were just simply animals. So many human's had begon to see them as such as it was.
Zoro and his sister had been lucky enough to stay together growing up - but lucky was a such tricky word. The man who'd taken them in when they where orphaned, and who'd raised them had been a good man, who had the misfortune of recieving goodness in exchange for health, and had died much younger than expected.
Zoro'd recalled he'd been about 10 or so when his surrogate father died, and his sister - being about 13 or so, had begun to attract the eye of some of the 'iffier' men of the town. Uneasy with the attention, Kuina and he had run off - hiding in the mountains. The escape worked at first, Kuina having been extremely resourceful, and Zoro was quick to learn all the things she taught him. Unfortunately, the forest got smaller and smaller every year, and during one of the lazy days of summer, they'd been discovered by one such type they'd run from in the first place.
There where five years that Zoro did not talk about, years that Chopper could only piece together from the hours of surgery and months of rehab That they had gone though after finding Zoro, hiding behind Doctrine's office, rummaging though tossed out medical supplies in attempt to bandage himself up. He'd actually never a kemonomimi in person before, and his continual attempts to touch the boy's ears had sent the hurt boy into 'fight or flight' mode, until Doctrine had shown up, and sedated the boy.
For a long time, the toro didn't talk to them - and because of the damage to his face, Doctrine suggested that maybe he couldn't. He was completely deaf on the left side already- his ear having been ripped, three long gashes cutting all the way into his skull. But his hearing was fine in his right ear, and he seemed to enjoy listening, and Chopper like to talk to him, and so the two became very close during those first few months. He'd follow Chopper around the clinic, watching in fascination as the apprentice worked.
Eventually, he started talking again - something he'd been forbidden to do for the better part of the five years, and once he'd recovered physically, he'd help out at the clinic. Zoro confided his hurts to Chopper - and told the young to-be doctor about the emotional wounds that would not heal, and that hurt him so much more than the damage to his body. But he never did care to discuss the details what happen during those years. Kuina had died escaping from the second man who tried to own her - the first one hadn't lived very long... And although Zoro was angry that she'd left him behind - he had at one point admitted to Chopper he was happy she'd at least been free when it had happened, no longer a slave to those men...
And then, about a year ago, a young doctor named Kaya had told Doctrine about where she was working - the Merry Go.
She'd said that one of the biggest problems they had with the kemonomimi was that most of them where terrified of humans - and justly so - and so they were looking for others to come help, and the offer was extended to Zoro. She explained that for the most part, Zoro would just lead by example, to be a strong, calm role model for the younger children to follow.
Zoro'd not been to found of the idea at first, but after a few days of battling internally on the matter, he asked Chopper if it would be okay. The boy was heartbroken to loose his only friend, but he didn't want Zoro to feel like he had to stay if he wanted to go....
In the end it was suggested that Chopper go too - it would be an excellent learning opportunity - and after Kaya agreed, the younger boy had exploded in a fountain of tears. He would missed Doctrine so very much... he said so, several thousand times as he gathered his things, all the while smile splitting his face in half at the idea of his first adventure.
Luffy had greeted them as soon as the entered to property - a boy only a year or so younger than Zoro, with all the personality of a rubber ball. He'd bounced up to them, talking faster then anyone could keep up with - glomping briefly onto Kaya, before hugging Chopper as well.
Zoro looked at him with his what had become his standard 'I DO bite' look, and the boy simply smiled - not a trace of fear - and thankfully kept at least arms length away.
There where a great deal of other staff members there, and regulars who where Luffy's Family. There was Ussop, who sadly kept out of sight, having found the world to bite to hard. Her did love to tell stories though,a nd under the guise of 'Sogeking' he would wander the premise in the evening to tell stories to those who could find no rest. Kaya worked closely with him, and she had told Luffy that she was fairly certain that the other was devopting a crush on her.
There was Robin, a woman with a vast, unparalled knowledge of just about everything. She and the kemono Franky where a ruthless duo, and with their knowlegde of laws and precedures, worked on buying and freeing kemono's, as well as working on getting laws in place to help protect them.
Nami was their thief. And she was very good at her job. But sometimes the things she brought back to them to see where hard to stomache. A few months ago, she arrived with another at her side, a new comer.
Nami was red - like the majority of the kitsune, while her companion was a vibrant gold. It was a rarity that had left to boy more than just scarred.. it left him insane... He was extremely violent, lashing out at anyone who got close enough - tearing at himself when he wasn't being restrained.
From what Nami'd relayed to them, there was a group that was breeding kemonomimi - training them from birth. They'd acquired the golden fox a couple years ago. The boy'd been so adamant about NOT following along with their twisted game, that at some point, the kistune'd been actually injected with female pheromones. So much - that it had completely overwhelmed his mind.
Injected so many times, that *he* now extruded the pheromones himself - permanently warping his state of mind. It was guessed the boy'd not had a single lucid moment in years.
Chopper pressed his forhead again the heavy door. He'd been working to find a way to at the very least suppress the scents, giving Zoro the latest test trials to give to the kitsune....
And now, he was Zoro's responsibility. Zoro'd already gone though physical torture in his younger life, and worked hard to make him self stronger in response. Storied behind a veil of the years of which nothing was to be spoken off, lie an anomaly in the toro that left him immune to the smells excreting from the kitsune, the otherwise devastating fumes became completely lost on tiger's hormonal system. Thus, he was one of the few strong enough not to get ripped to shreds the moment he entered to room, much less wade through the hours of fighting until the kitsune had tired himself out enough to be manageable - to be feed, and bandaged. To be cared for.
