I'm sorry I can't help with story location, but FWIW, my personal headcanon is that Jim majored in military history at either the bachelor's or master's level - and possibly did a thesis on General/President Eisenhower. As a commissioned officer, Jim would NEED to have had at least a BA/BS, likely went through ROTC as an undergrad, and as an Army Ranger doing super-black-ops stuff, he would have had either a master's degree or the equivalent in military training.

Your comment made me remember more. In the story I'm thinking about Blair found out about the Masters because he found an old magazine with an article that Jim had written that listed his credentials. After he read the article he realized that there were lots of instances where Jim's vocabulary or wording didn't make sense with his upper class upbringing. He realized that Jim was deliberately "dumbing himself down". It may have been because of the "freak" thing he was so sensitive about.

I've been trying to find the second story since you posted the original request. I also remember reading it. What I remember is Blair stating something about the article and I think it used complex theory or something and Jim saying "I forgot I wrote that." If I recall correctly (and I'm not sure I do) Blair answered that Jim uses the theory or whatever it is in every day life.

has Jim 'courting' Blair because he's afraid Blair is planning to leave.
