Hi, I just stumbled onto the sentinel bandwagon and I would love some recommendations. Tried wading the waters by myself, but this fandom is massive. My preferences are long novel length fics or even series. First times and AU fics are great, but no established relationships or episode related stories since I've only seen the first season so far ( Read more... )

For a novel-length first time fic, my personal favorite is Equilibrium by Lamardeuse.

Besides this site, a good resource is the Jim/Blair tag at epic_recs. Also, check out the Sentinel tag at the crack_van. That's how I waded through it all myself, just a few months ago.

I love Lamardeuse's 'Equilibrium'. However, I'd warn the OP off reading this one until s/he has actually seen TSbyBS - the fic has massive spoilers for that episode, to say the least!

But yeah, I agree, the recs at epic_recs are a great place to start, and crack_van is pretty comprehensive.

Some of the fics I wanted to read from Dante's list are invalid. But as I need to sleep at night, I'll save the search for another time. *smile*

Welcome to the fandom!! I remember that feeling back in November; it's a great kind of massive though, ne? Well, it seems like you've got tons to go through already and so many great recs have been mentioned. I'll go ahead and plug the one I'm currently reading.

Mab's Regency series is a great series that seems to fit your preferences. Fic one is a first time, the series is a total AU, and no established relationships or episode related stories in sight. And while the fics aren't really novel length, together they make for a good long read. So enjoy the beauty that is Mab. ^_^

Story 1: Cards on the Table, A Game of Hazard, King or Knaves, and All's Fair, the fourth story that she's still writing over on livejournal.

I think that there's an issue with 852. I can get everything else in my bookmarks but not that. Hopefully it will settle soon.

Try the LMFAs - the nominations and winners are neatly packaged into categories to help you choose and the fact that a story's been nominated tells you someone liked it enough to take the time.

Awards were the way I first found my way around this astonishingly prolific and consistently excellent fandom, many moons ago.

Do I ever agree with you. The nominations, so nicely divvied up into gen and slash plus all the categories, is a wonderful way to dive in. And the committee has done a stellar job in replacing broken links with live ones. Super suggestion!

It was the awards lists that first introduced me to the best of TS fic - the often forgotten Burtons, as a matter of fact - still a fine resource when you're searching for the older stories.
