I'd like to read any fics in which Jim and Blair face a problem *together.*  I'm not in the mood to read any in which they're working at cross-purposes; I'm looking for the ones that either draw them closer together or reaffirm their connection to each other ( Read more... )

I'll take all of those, although I would prefer slash. I'll read het only as a last resort.

YK - that's a really interesting request! Looking at my own stories, a lot of the tension/drive/whatever comes from Jim and Blair having different motivations and approaches.

Are you familiar with Dasha? Her gen fic especially is very collaborativey, esp. her Imperfections and Ordinary Magic series:

LOL, I was thinking the same thing when I went through my list of stories.

Dasha came to mind for me also, but her slash stuff instead. Her Dorset County series is terrific and found at 852 prospect. But I also like her gen stories like Inheritance, where Stephen gets a first hand look at the down side of being a sentinel and what Blair does to help when Jim is in crisis. Good choice!

Dasha is an author who writes equally well gen and slash. I've liked pretty much everything she's written. She has two beautiful series at 852 prospect. No Big Deal tells the entire series through Jim's eyes. The rest are what is known as the Dorset County series. It is set after the show ends. Jim's sensitivities are finally overwhelmed by the toxins in a big city and they have to leave Cascade. Just sort her stories by date to get the proper order to read them.

Her gen story Clinging to the Wheel is the only death story I heartily recommend. It shows the bond Jim and Blair share goes beyond one lifetime. She does beautiful work.

A story I really like is Where Friendship Takes You by Tazy. preslash. It's a Jim POV that starts with Blair newly a cop with them both in a manhunt ( ... )

Wow, thank you so much! As for your rec Palooka, I don't mind het as long as it ends with Jim and Blair together, as that one appears to do. Again, thanks.

Always listen to magician. I just follow her around and read her recs :-0

She also advocates a bit of self-pimpage now and again. I will let you know (since you requested that rare bird called a gen story *G*) that mine are mostly cooperative problem solving tales. The ones I will mention now are 'The Hamantaschen Defense' which is case action/humor here devoted to solving a problem of Blair's:

http://www.wolfpanther.com/stories/hamantaschen.html

and 'Toxic Legacy', darker h/c, in which they work to solve a problem of Jim's (also at that site, www.wolfpanther.com)

::trots off to read some of the recs, thanks, magician!::

Actually I like your whole series of Blair settling into becoming a cop. Jim is very supportive as Blair finds his way and resolves his issues. Good rec. And it's always a pleasure to promote Sentinel stories. We have such a wonderful and diverse fandom.
