Like I said at the time, I liked the world building here, and I also really appreciated the idea that bonding is not some impossible to avoid or circumvent powerful force. Freewill in relationships ftw. :-)
Mella's art is lovely, and the title page especially sets up a nice mood.
Thank you again for lending a hand with the beta and commenting. There's so many variables to play around with in bonding, aren't there? I enjoy world building and I'm pretty damn sure you do, too. I've sure enjoyed the worlds you've created in your AUs.
Thanks again for choosing my story for the Moonridge auction(do you think we'll ever get used to calling it the Big Bear auction instead? I doubt it) and also for commenting here. I'm glad that you found the story a satisfactory read and that it brought back love for the Sentinel again. And it's always good to know that the world building worked in the context of the story.
Laurie, This story was just stunning! Although I received this story from you as part of the Moonridge auction, I've only just now been able to sit down to read it and, boy howdy, am I glad I made time to read it in one sitting! It was everything I love in a story: wonderful plot, fascinating au, both of our boys true to character, and full of lovely angst as well as the bonus of dub-con and D/s dynamics. I didn't find this dark at all since it was another culture and Blair just didn't fit in. Thank goodness for JIm, Simon and Henri. Thank you so much for this and all I can say is that I hope you write for Moonridge again 'cos I'm there!
Mella68, Your artwork Is beautiful. I loved Blair with the star but Jim in that uniform? Oh, yeah...!
Thanks so much for supporting Moonridge and for leaving me this comment here. I'm glad that the story's elements worked for you. Blair really didn't fit in, did he? His ability to connect with people is one of his greatest strengths and it served him well in this setting.
I'll probably do a story for the next auction, if I can. I've got one unfinished series, a Sci-fi one, that I'd like to at least do the next story. If possible, I'll try and also use it for the next Big Bang. That depends entirely on how the calendar is worked out, though. I need to give the bidders for Moonridge thirty days of the story being exclusive to them. There were a few people this time that didn't get the full thirty days, but they asked for the story after the deadline. The mods here were good to work with me by letting me post later in the Big Bang, too.
Fantastic story! Very, very enjoyable. I love the world(s) you have created, and the deft interweaving of it all with canon - really brilliant ideas. The relationship part of the story is so nicely done, with the opening premise that this is all cold-hearted and cynical being completely blown away by the Jim/Blair connection and Blair's revelations about his past and why he does what he does. And in doing so, how he opens Jim up to a new, emotional way of thinking. Really lovely, and beautfully written.
Mella68, I love your illustrations - lovely melding of all the important elements, and really atmospheric.
I'm glad that the story worked for you, the relationship between Jim and Blair and taking characters from one setting and twisting things around so that they're facing new issues. In a way it's the nature vs nurture debate. What is the basic personality of a person and how is that impacted by a different environment, a different upbringing?
I enjoyed your world and culture building, love the details explaining the Maven society and I like how developed both Blair and Jim's characters. Thanks for a good read.
The artwork was crisp, atmospheric and beautiful. I loved your use of the star throughout and how smooth the blending was.
It's good to know that the world building in the story worked for you, and that the Maven culture interested you as well as the growing relationship between Jim and Blair.
