I began this journal three years ago. Last post, before tonight, was March of this year.  I just glanced back over all the entries, looking for something I wrote about that I could shoehorn into the following prompt

Ha! that was my GRE essay question! I love that they ask you NOT to talk about "cheating in an academic setting". Because nothing makes a school want to take you like telling them how your undergrad thesis was lifted from Foucault.

Do you remember which essay it was? The 45 minute "Perspective on an Issue", or the 30 minute "Analyze an Argument"? Probably the former, but I'd be curious.

Incidentally, I eventually decided to just plagiarize an answer from Carl Sagan.

The question seems to ask for a situation that you agonized over, but that may not really be necessary. As an alternative, consider a situation that you might have agonized over but where you actually made the choice without having to give it much thought. I suspect that they may be most interested in the depth of your analysis rather than hearing a moving description of the actual experience. Or at least, I think you could legitimately interpret the question that way. From that point of view, I don't see anything wrong with just making something up or using somebody else's experience.

Both routes there did occur to me; looking back, I came to an odd sense that I had simply moved through each decision in my life with full moral certainty, which is a very creepy thought indeed, and can't be quite right.

As for fiction... I was worried that this question could represent a jumping-off point for an ethical discussion in an interview-to-come, and I'm piss poor at making up details on the fly.

Don't forget about that time when you and Jack Bauer had to choose whether or not to accept a multi-million dollar bribe from Dr. Claw to allow him to inject thousands of kittens with a cocktail of (delicious) drugs that would cause the kittens to gnaw adorably on the hands of small children and bring the economies of several large countries to a screeching halt as the resulting cat macros were simultaneously released into the wild.

Yes, I remember the massed ranks of kittens, mewling for their sweet macro drugs, as we held that mad genius in custody while the beeping of that digital clock slowly bored into our earholes...

But, if I wrote about the lolcat cocktail, I'd be giving our competitors in Pennsylvania an edge, with unforeseeable consequences! Not yet....

In all seriousness, I submitted this last night, with some relatively heartfelt drivel on my ongoing struggle with carnivory. Thanks for the remarks, y'all.
