Duncan and Methos Talk About Love

Okay, I have to confess - I’m having trouble with all this Duncan/Methos slash where the author devotes thousands and thousands of words to them having sex and then talking about their ~feelings~, over and over again. It really doesn’t seems very in character

Unfortunately I know exactly what you mean, and the best I can offer is that I am trying like hell to write it. Mostly so far Duncan and Methos are debating stupid things like the historical accuracy of films and trying not to yell at each other about the things that are actually problematic between them. Sorry I cannot be more helpful!

It happens in a lot of fandoms, honestly, and I dislike it immensly. Especially because (as we discussed on skype last night) it seems so often to walk hand in hand with the feminisation of one of the two characters - as if even the most hardcore slash fans can't imagine a functional relationship with the male/female dynamic. *sigh*

Thank-you for the link - I enjoyed it! I liked Brother and Other Strangers for similar reasons; Methos looses his memory, and thinks he's Adam Pierson. And while Adam is happy to talk about his feelings, the second he's Methos again, he's saying things like, "Four thousand years ago if you wanted someone you gave her parents a dozen goats and took her back to your tent, you didn’t bloody talk her to death first. Communication is vastly overrated, in my experience." Which is such a very Methos thing to say.

FAIL. *grin* You could fix it by reccing me those gen fics you mentioned.
