Why the heck do I do this to myself? Nobody makes me write anything, or post it if I do. And today I put up the second chapter and now I know there are 4 comments on it and I can't bring myself to look at them! I'm alone in the house - that's a miracle on a Friday night, it's the perfect time for a writing jag, and I'm just this horrible bundle of ( Read more... )

I think you take this writing thing rather more seriously than I do :)

At least you get comments!

Realistically, most comments that one gets on ff.net or LJ are complimentary, so I very much doubt you need fear flames. People typically don't leave a comment if they don't like something.

However, I know what you mean when you say no one makes you write or post anything, but you do it anyway. I've been driven, DRIVEN to finish this fic I'm working on. It's a source of great stress; after putting up my second chapter last night, I was so wound up, I could hardly sleep.

I think fanfic is less about peeling off your skin than original fic, as you're using characters, settings and costumes from another source. Original fic is all you.

And yes, absolutely, it's hard to read your own fic as another person would. The most difficult thing is spinning out a story a little bit at a time; I have this need to explain everything, which kills the suspense.

Anyway - I feel your pain. All the time! Ack!
