I don't agree with your description of Ten, although to an extent I can understand why you'd describe him that way. What I see when I look at him, pretty much from Doomsday onwards, is a man who hates himself.
And a man who hates himself, given the chance when presented with a doppelgänger of himself, is going to jump at the chance to send away somebody who is important to him back into a parallel existence with that doppelgänger.
Mainly because although that Other looks and talks like him he isn't him and therefore has much less chance of "contaminating" somebody he cares about. Especially since that Other is not an exact copy (Donna Noble for the win). That's projection on his part, yes, but that's how it goes when your self-esteem is on the floor. And for what it's worth I haven't seen a Doctor who IMHO has healthy self-esteem - or, indeed, good mental health in general - since the Time War.
But let's agree to disagree, because outwith that point I think I agree with pretty much everything you've written.
