Thoughts on Broadchurch (spoiler-free)

Whodunits never normally remember to make you cry at the end, even if they did so at the start. The first series of The Killing, to which Broadchurch has been much compared, got so wrapped up in its over-elaborate plotting it forgot to make us care about its histrionic finale. Yup.

As an American, living not only on the other side of the "pond" but all the way across the continent fromt said "pond", if I wanted to watch Broadchurch at roughly the same time the rest of England did, I had to watch it online. The good thing about online broadcasts is that, by in large, you don't need to sit through commercials ( ... )

I can recommend Life On Mars highly, too, if you can understand the Northern accents. John Sims (aka The Master) stars. And, rather more nostalgic but less cuddly than you might suppose, "Call The Midwife". It stars Jessica Raines, who played the psychic in "Hide."
