A few other things about AX 2010

No pics for this one but a couple of other things I almost forgot...

  • I was surprised to come across Peter S. Beagle in a booth in the (absolutely huge, so big we only it made it down two aisles) Vendor's room, selling books; I guess a new edition of The Last Unicorn is coming out soon and they were taking pre-orders for it. He looked dead tired ( Read more... )

I loved The Last Unicorn, but A Fine and Private Place didn't grab me at all. I couldn't finish it. The Rhinocerus Who Quoted Nietchze had some great things in it. My favorite was Come Lady Death. I borrowed the copy of that book that I read but I'll probably buy one just for that story.

Well, it's been a really long time since I read that one, so it could be I might pick it up again and have a different opinion, but I liked it at the time. Glad the one I did buy has a good recommendation.

I was just a little surprised to just happen upon him at an anime con - I had no idea he'd be there.

Cool on the Peter Beagle part. I know I read both books, most likely your copies. Don't remember anything about them though. Had to have been over 15x2yrs ago. (Thought that the equation looked better then the acctual number..)

I read somewhere else he wrote A Fine and Private Place when he was 19. He's now in his early 70s, so I guess he's getting a lot of mileage out of it. It was a little sad to see him sitting there behind his piles of books, looking so tired, but I'm sure events like that take a lot out of you.

He really did seem shocked I wasn't signing up for the Last Unicorn, because I'm sure that's what most everyone else there was squealing over (a movie that did him very little good).

Me too! I was kicking myself we missed it - didn't realize it was something new until after we got home and I looked at the schedule a little closer.

I haven't actually gotten a good look at the trailer myself - internets seem to be damn slow lately...

And I realize I need to add another bullet to this post that I forgot...
