Chapter 26

“It was my mom…she and my dad want to meet you…”

“EHHH??” Shako was scared. Of course Daiki already met Shako’s parents and they loved him. It’d be easy to meet his parents right?

Wrong. Shako was in front of Daiki’s parents a week later her back board straight, palms sweaty and her teeth tightly clenched together. There was a pleasant, accepting aura coming from Daiki’s father who seemed extremely friendly. In fact he was. On the other hand, Daiki’s mother was emitting a purple fiery aura that Shako swore she could see. Daiki’s mother was immediately displeased with the fact that Shako and Daiki were dating when she heard about it years ago. She was even more discontent hearing that her precious baby boy was moving out of the house to live with some girl she didn’t even know. But as all mothers know, they have to eventually let go of their babies which is what Daiki’s mother did…after deciding to keep a memento of Daiki’s time in their household. That memento just happened to be is bed (A/N- refer to chapter 21) But after all these years, Daiki’s mom couldn’t do anything about this relationship with Shako…until now.

And here they were. Shako sitting straight as a board because she was so nervous feeling like she was being eyed by the devil himself…except that this was no devil; it was her boyfriend’s mother.

“So Takahashi-san, what do your parents do for a living?” the questions were starting.

“My mom’s a hotel chain owner and my dad’s a neurosurgeon. They travel quite frequently so I admit I don’t see them very often.”

“Oh, so before moving in with Daiki, you were living on your own? That’s quite impressive.” Daiki’s father commented, “How long were you living by yourself?”

“Since the beginning of high school. I moved out of my parent’s house to be closer to school. My parents sent me to a private all girls school which was quite far from their home. I decided to move closer to school so I wouldn’t be any trouble for them.”

“That’s amazing! So you were fending for yourself at such a young age!” Shako clearly won over Daiki’s father.

“Can you cook or do laundry? Being a good housewife is important.” Shako couldn’t calm down with all the questions she was being hounded with by Daiki’s mother. They were sitting at the kitchen table face to face. Daiki was also secretly holding Shako’s hand under the table running his thumb over her hand in comfort. He knew that his mom could be quite scary, after all having to be punished or scolded by her for over 23 years he should know his mother’s wrath the best. Which was why he was there for Shako one hundred and ten percent.

“I can do laundry, but as for cooking… I can cook a few dishes, but I admit I’m not perfect.”

“But Shako’s food always tastes amazing. She cooks really healthy food. She’s even worse than you mom; making me eat veggies and the like.” It was true. For the past couple of months Shako made sure their diets were balanced. She was the one to show Daiki that eating healthy didn’t always mean bland or nasty tasting food.

“I see…” She still wasn’t impress but so far, Shako seemed like a perfect woman. “Do you two fight a lot?’

Uh oh. How were they supposed to answer a question like that? “Um… we have our quarrels but they’re never anything serious. We always make up in the end.” Daiki answered carefully.

“I was asking Takahashi-san Daiki.”

“There’s no need to be so formal Arioka-san. It’s fine to call me Shako.” She was making an attempt to become closer to Daiki’s mother.

“Okay, Shako-SAN,” Daiki mother stressed making sure that Shako realized that she wasn’t so keen on the idea, “What are you studying at the moment?”

“I’m researching ways to help aquatic creatures. It’s very fascinating and I love helping the sea creatures who can’t help themselves.”

“And your plans for the future?”

“I’m not one hundred percent sure at the moment…but I’d like to be a veterinarian for aquatic life.”

“But you don’t live near the ocean. How are you supposed to treat creatures here? Are you planning on leaving my poor son to go off on your own to frolic with some sea horses and Sebastian or Flounder? (A/N- I’m referring to The Little Mermaid) Or maybe you’d like to go search for Ariel the Little Mermaid?”

“That’s enough Kumiko! You’re being rude to our guest!” Daiki father, who had been quiet for a while stepped into the conversation. Even though he was a quiet man, he had some sort of control over his strong willed, thickheaded wife.

“But dear, I’m just making sure that she’s suitable for Daiki! I can’t just leave my son in the hands of some stranger!” she protested.

“That doesn’t mean that you have to interrogate her! I’m sorry Shako-san I hope you’re not offended. You sound like…excuse me, you ARE a wonderful person and I hope you and Daiki are happy together.” Shako felt like she could just jump up and go to hug Daiki’s father.

“Arigatou gozaimasu” Shako smiled but that smile immediately disappeared the second Shako looked at Daiki’s mother. She could swear the she was now foaming at the mouth. Someone was sleeping on the couch tonight… Poor Arioka-san (Daiki’s father)

That night ended with dinner. Daiki’s father really liked Shako and they spent a lot of time talking and he was joking around with his son. Shako even heard some interesting stories about Daiki when he was younger. Like how he wanted to be a cowboy and how he’d run around the house in nothing but cowboy boots and his underwear… so Shako wasn’t the only one with that kind of problem as a child… (A/N- Mayonaka no~ Cowboy ni natte~ [I want to become a midnight cowboy] Hey! Say! JUMP’s Mayonaka no Shadow Boy ftw)

As for Daiki’s mother, she sat there pretending to be perfectly fine when of course she wasn’t. In order to please he husband, she was smiling and laughing along with everyone else. She was probably fooling Daiki’s father, but there was no way she was tricking Daiki or Shako. It was still hard for Shako to feel comfortable for the sole reason that Daiki’s mother was still staring her down.

And then it happened. Daiki’s mother put down her chopsticks gentle and put on a fake smile. “So Shako-san, I really want to get to know you better. Why don’t you come over tomorrow and I’ll teach you a few recipes? It’ll be fun!”

“That sounds like a great idea. We’d love to have you over again.”

Daiki and Shako exchanged looks and gave weak smiles. There was no way that they could turn them down,

Shako tried not to burst out crying and said weakly “Sure, why not?”

A/N- AND SO the gears are turning again~ Right now…it’s about 12 AM XD I’m typing using a laptop instead of my usual computer…. Which is why there may be some typos here and there… My internet usage hit 100% which meant I couldn’t use internet without having to pay extra… THANKFULLY I’m allowed now ~ If I weren’t…I would have had to take a mini- hiatus which I DON’T want to do! By the way… It’s like August 18th…YEA I thought I should also mention that….I’ll be going away for about a week starting on the 24th. But hey, who cares right?

Anyway…I had a ton of fun writing this chapter XD Evil mothers are always scary so I have plans for this XD In my country, when guys take their girlfriends to meet their parents or vice versa it normally means the relationship is VERY serious~ Hint hint* nudge nudge* There’s more to come soon~ Otanoshimi nee?
