Chapter 20
When Shako fell down the stairs she managed to break her leg. Daiki quickly called an ambulance, not knowing what to do. Even though she was in a lot of pain, she constantly giggled at her clumsiness. She was laughing from the point where she was put into the back of the ambulance right until she went into surgery. Daiki, on the other hand, was so worried that he was fidgeting and pacing and couldn’t sit still.
“I’m fine Dai-chan, don’t worry!” she smiled at Daiki. He was sitting at her bedside talking to Shako. Shako was in the hospital resting after she had surgery.
“Shako you’re accident prone. How can I NOT worry?” It was true. Shako was like a magnet to accidents. “When can you leave here anyway? I remember how boring it was just sitting in the same place for hours on end.”
“Saa… the doctor said something about being discharged in about 2 days. I wonder how I’m going to survive…being crippled like this. The elevator’s broken too…how in the world am I going to get into my room?! Cooking’s going to be hard too!....Crap I forgot to feed my fish!! He’s going to die!” Shako was panicking over the problems she would have one she’s discharged…and her fish…
“Gosh Shako, you just fell down a flight of stairs and you’re worrying about your fish?! Mou, you need to worry about yourself more,” said Daiki, “I’ll take care of everything…and your fish.” He gave her a goofy smile.
“Tehe!” she giggled, “Thank you Dai-chan~”

Daiki helped Shako home. When they reached her apartment complex, just like Shako said, the elevator was still broken. Of course, since her leg was in a cast, she couldn’t walk up the stairs.
“Mou…what am I going to do now….” She looked up the stairs.
“Wait here.” Daiki dragged a chair over and made Shako sit down. “I’m going to put your things upstairs.” He ran up the stairs with Shako's bags.
“Be careful Dai-chan!" Shako yelled up the stairway and laughed when she faintly heard him say, “I’m not as clumsy as you!”

When Daiki returned, he helped Shako stand.
“I still wonder how I’m going to get up the stairs…well I can walk.…but I think it’s going to take all day to get up there…” she stared at the evil staircase. Shako lived on the 8th floor of the building, which meant 8 flights of stairs.
She suddenly felt herself being lifted into the air. “Dai-chan what are you doing?!?” she was swung over his shoulder as he bolted up the stairs. “You’re going to fall and end up like me! Dai-chan!!!” Shako was flailing, swinging her legs and hitting her arms against Daiki's back so he would put her down.
“It’s fine! We’ll get upstairs faster this way!!Stop moving so much or I'm going to drop you!” he was laughing as he ran up the steps. Daiki was short, but he worked out once a week. The chibi was short but very strong. (It’s time to pretend again~ XD)
When he reached Shako’s room, he put her down carefully onto her bed.
“Saa, what would you like me to do for you Ohime-sama*?” Daiki bowed to her. Shako giggled and reached out to lightly hit him on the head.
“You’re being silly Dai-chan!”
“Well, you can’t really move Ohime-sama. Therefore, I’ll help you. Saa, your first order?” he was having too much fun.
“It’s fine Dai-chan, just come and sit with me,” she said as she patted the bed beside her.
“Hai! Ohime-sama!”
“Cut it out Dai-chan!!!! You make me sound like some damsel in distress or some princess desperately looking for her prince.”
“But you are a princess Shako~”
“Jaa…if I were a princess, I wouldn’t be looking for my prince. He’s already right in front of me~” she said embarrassed, yet jokingly. She tapped Daiki on the nose.
“That’s so corny!” they both burst out laughing.

Daiki took care of Shako during her time of recuperation. It was becoming troublesome for Daiki to constantly run back and forth between his house and Shako’s, so he practically camped there again. Every day he would help Shako to school and then go to his classes. Chisato would help Shako, doing odd jobs for her there. Afterschool, Daiki would be waiting at the gate of Akayama Gakuen and he would take her home. After taking her home, he would stay there for the rest of the evening. By 8 o’clock every night, Daiki would run home and pick up his books. After that, he normally returned to Shako’s house to do his assignments there. Throughout all this time, Daiki was cooking Shako’s meals, doing her laundry and cleaning her house. Most of Daiki’s belongings were at Shako’s house from the time where her grandfather died. He slept over almost every night except the days where he had to study for major tests.
“Gomen nee Dai-chan…for being such a bother…” Shako felt bad for taking up a lot of Daiki’s time.
“I told you a million times Shako. You’re my girlfriend. What kind of guy would I be if I just left my most important person to suffer?” he told her nonchalantly. Shako’s face turned bright red and she looked away. Shako was sitting on the couch in her living room while Daiki was kneeling on the floor folding laundry.
“Arigatou” she mumbled but Daiki heard her anyway and smiled.
“You’re welcome my hime-sama~” he stood up and moved to kiss her on the cheek.
“Mou Dai-chan!!! Don’t start with that again!” He just laughed.
“Hai, I’ll go get your lunch.” He walked towards the kitchen.

Shako was able to move around on crutches a week later. She was becoming independent again yet she still needed Daiki’s assistance because she couldn’t stand for long periods of time. Daiki on the other hand, was taking things too seriously and somehow became Shako’s servant. Shako didn’t treat Daiki like a servant though. He was doing things on his own.
“Nee Shako… I’m going to be moving soon. I’m already into my 20s so I thought that I should move out of my parents’ home.” Daiki said one day while sitting with Shako on her bed. Daiki was leaning against the headboard and Shako was leaning against his chest.
“Eh? You’re moving? Is it far? Will you still be in Tokyo Dai-chan?” she was worried that her relationship would become a long-distance one.
“No, I’ll still be in Tokyo,” he looked out the window, “You’re going to the Marine Science University in Tokyo nee? You said you wanted to study marine biology…You see…I found a place right in the middle of my university and there…You’ll have your cast for a while and you’ll need my help so…will you move in with me?”
“Eh?! M-move in?!? You mean… the same house?! Living with each other?!” Shako whipped her head around and started freaking out.
“No Shako, I’m asking you to move into a separate house from me” he gave her a look, “OF COURSE I mean the same house!”
“Eh….I can’t believe it…”
“So will you?”
“Un! I’d love to!” Shako had a huge smile plastered onto her face as she turned around to hug Daiki.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~They moved in together a few months later. Shako started university and was having fun studying aquatic creatures and life underwater. The one seabird she was the most interested studying about was…..penguins. They oddly reminded her of Daiki.
Shako’s recovery went a lot faster than expected so by that time Shako’s cast was off. After being off her leg for so many months, she still had a little trouble walking around, but everything was back to normal. Daiki was kinda disappointed that he didn’t have a good reason to spoil Shako as much anymore.
A lot of the furniture from Shako’s apartment was now placed into their new home. They had staged the house so that it resembled Shako’s old home. The way the furniture was had special meaning to the two of them especially since they spent a lot of time at Shako’s place.
“That’s the last of it,” Shako said as she clapped her hands together. Her old apartment was empty. “The room seems so big now~” she ran into the room and spun around with her arms spread wide.
“Hai, hai, it’s time to go now. Ready to say good bye?” he held up the key to Shako’s home.
“Yea...” she sniffled. “It’s going to be sad. Not coming back here.”
“Daijoubu. Hai, you can do the honors.” He placed the key into her hand and walked outside. Shako grabbed her bag and threw it over her shoulder. She looked around one last time before stepping out the door and locking it.
“Jaa, let’s go. There’s still some cleaning and stuff left to do at the new house.” Daiki took Shako’s hand and lead her to the elevator. Moving would have taken forever if the elevator weren’t fixed. Shako was glad not only because it took a few days to move, but also because with the elevator repaired, Daiki wouldn’t have an excuse to carry her up the stairs. She was really embarrassed when Daiki did those types of things in public. Other people in her complex would always stare when Daiki carried her. It couldn’t be helped though. Shako still wasn’t able to perfectly support herself even with her cast gone.
