Not A Good Start to a New Day (Metaness, by the way)

Padme relaxed comfortably curled up in the sunny spot on her bed; the data recorder she fell asleep musing over the night before, now laying on the floor. Suddenly the quiet of the morning was shattered by the door sliding open and a mechanical voice shouting.

"Oh! Oh! You filthy beast! What are you doing in Miss Padme's bed?!"

Filthy beast?! What the-?! "Threepio? Are you all right?" Except that wasn't what came out of her mouth. What came out of her mouth was a distinctly feline yowl.

Oh. Oh, that couldn't be good. Maybe, she thought, she was still dreaming. Or imagining things. Either solution would have suited her just fine, but there was no time to explore such a line of thought as suddenly she found herself rather unceremoniously lifted up by the scruff of her neck.

The protest that sprang from her throat sprang forth as a loud hiss instead. Ow, ow, ow, ow! She tried squirming, and twisting, and thrashing, and yes, she even tried to take a swipe or two at the gold plating. But claws versus metal? Yeah. No contest. And Threepio? Not amused.

"Stop that at once!" He demanded, depositing her outside the door. "And stay out."

No, no, no, don't close the door! Threepio! It's me! Again, it came out, however, as a series of desperate sounding meows. She tried to dash back inside, but a little too late, and ended up running headlong into the door.

Ouch. Padme sat back and rubbed a paw over her head. Ouch. That hurt. She stared at the door for a few more moments. Just to be certain that Threepio wasn't going to realize that the cat was her and open it back up. But no, no such luck. Slowly, she turned and walked away. Great. Now what was she supposed to do? And a Senate meeting this afternoon, too! She certainly couldn't show up to that as a cat. Even if someone DID figure out that it she wasn't supposed to be one. How would that look?

She wondered if maybe whatever happened didn't just affect her... What if it affected others, too? How would they figure out the real cats from the ones in the same situation as her? Not only that, but why, and how, would someone do such a thing?
