Ruby-throated Hummingbird Chicks /Raptor Education Group, Inc.
We are delighted to share a video featuring two of our tiniest patients. A nest, complete with tiny Ruby-throated Hummingbird chicks arrived yesterday after it came down in a storm. We were not able to replace it, but will continue to try when weather clears. Few people have the ( Read more... )

What a wonderful video!

(My icon btw is of an Anna's hummingbird reproaching me for getting in the way of "his" hummingbird feeder on "his" balcony.)

They're aggressive little SoBs. :D Sometimes I think they expend more energy chasing each other away from the feeder than in actual feeding. I haven't been good about the feeder just lately. I've had so many other things on my mind. I love having them here during the winter though, especially now that I've found a way to keep the nectar from freezing.

At my parents' place in Arizona, there was a tin lantern directly outside the kitchen window, where a hummingbird annually made her nest. It was fascinating to watch her raise chicks at such a close range, and then see them fledge. Wonderful creatures.
