[Don fumbles for his journal the way he used to fumble for his alarm clock, pulling it closer but not yet looking at it. If he doesn't look, the sound might fade back into dreams and let him sleep a little longer.]
What...?

So he increases the urgency of his tone, still sprawled awkwardly on the ground.]
Donatello. The Malnosso made me an anthropomorphic turtle, and I am essentially unable to walk. The balance is all... off. [Robert fumbles about planitively for a moment.]

[Don steels himself, draws the journal into bed, and opens one eye.]

[Donatello is suddenly completely awake.]

Could it be... Robert?

... The ocean?]
... Are you alright? [Robert's voice - distorted by turtle anatomy, but still... Robert-ish... is full of fear.] Do you require assistance, or...

[Have the flick of a mermaid tail to demonstrate why.]

... You are part ichthyoid? [Because the word "mermaid" does not exist in Robert's vocabulary.] ... That seems somewhat disconcerting, but I suppose if you can speak well enough then you are likely alright...
I hope so, at least. I would be glad to assist you if you needed it. [There is that teleporter to the ocean... Well, the mun thinks there is anyway.]

Trying to feel upbeat despite the cloudy weather, Kryten engages whistle mode and swings his pink umbrella to and fro, somewhat robotically. But as he travels, is it just him or are there a lot of new, bizarre life forms in the village today? Would these be so-called 'New Feathers'?
One in particular catches his eye, a bespectacled turtle-like being. The fellow looks slightly uncomfortable, perhaps they were new... And yet there's something familiar about this being. Kryten decides to hail him.]
Excuse me, there, er, sir! Do you require any assistance?

... Ah, you must not recognize me in this state. That is understandable.
This is Professor Hastings. The Malnosso have apparently decided to experiment on us once more, and they have a sense of irony in what they chose.
... Unless you are not Kryten? Perhaps you are somebody else in a mechanoid's body instead... [That was the problem with this experiment; you were never entirely sure whom you were conversing with.]
Reply
Professor! That's you? [Kryten approaches closer to Professor Hastings, less cautious now he knows who he's dealing with. So this must be one of the Malnosso's experiments... Oh dear.] I hardly recognised you!
Not to worry, it's definitely me, Kryten, sir. Am I to understand the Malnosso have started transmogrifying people's physical forms? I did wonder why so many unfamiliar life forms were around... Apparently I haven't been affected. [Yet.]

That is exactly what the Malnosso have been doing, as far as I can tell. The species that they choose to make people seems to be entirely random... or perhaps chosen ironically. In my case it was, at least... or so I would think. Making me a mutant red-eared slider seems to be too deliberate to be entirely random.

... I am surprised you recognized me in this state.

Malnosso have a petty sense of humor, huh.
Reply
I suppose so. Or a strong sense of irony. [Robert smiles a bit, wryly, despite himself.]
You have been unaffected so far, I take it, Ms. Mine? I must admit, this form is not particularly unpleasant. Though it is odd to be exothermic...

Helios!
[A beat.]
... Oh, yes. You likely do not recognize me like this. [He smiles a little awkwardly.] ... This is Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. It seems as if the Malnosso have something of a sense of irony with their latest experiment.

A red eared water slider if I'm not mistaken? [ He knows a few species of them after all. ] They certainly have made their sense of humor most apparent, yes.

The same species as Donatello.
... I suppose the Malnosso took my statements about my species a little too literally...
But this form is most fascinating. Being exothermic is... quite illuminating.
I hope you have been keeping yourself well through all this? It... was a while since we spoke, of course. [Suddenly things are mildly awkward. But it's not as bad as it was before... Robert's happy to see Helios again, mostly.]
