There are times, albeit few and far between, where I can say I enjoy my job. Tonight my Encounter class, which is usually a huge pain in the ass to teach, was one of those times ( Read more... )

Man, yours is much more entertaining than mine, although most of my Encounters students couldn't come up with "journey from hell" if they wanted to. I wrote up random vacations and things they did, like sleeping in a park in Paris and drinking too much tequila in Texas.

your class makes me laugh. i want to come teach english there if i can teach every class like that. but yeah, how *did* they know goblin?!

Well, we know "youkai" and "oni" and stuff... knowing "goblin" isn't that weird when you think of it that way, is it?

I guess it depends on your interests, though. I'm not so sure lower-level Japanese learners who don't watch movies or anime know the word "oni". And most of my students don't know how to say "oni" in English (it comes up every once in a while, especially around setsubun) ^^;
