I feel as if I'm there your description is so vibrant.
I've always enjoyed sswimming in the rain since junior school. Swimming classes were in an unheated outdoor pool from September until October. In the North-East of England that often meant a swim in the rain followed by a damp walk back to school. There's something quite refreshing about the rain versus the chlorinated pool.
My favourite outdoor swim was in Southern Thailand. It was at the end of the monsoon season and every afternoon at about 4 there was a short downpour. The sea was very warm, the air hot and humid and the rain delightfully cool.
For complete contrast I had the pleasure of swimming in the Moskva Pool in Moscow,in the late 1980s. It was a huge outdoor heated pool. We visted in September and swam through mists rising off the pool in the cool autumn air.
