Excellent! Xander never really did have any peers--normal male near his age--during the show, except for Riley. Though there were a few glipses of it, we never got to see them bond as you've shown here (and in a very believable way).

“You know, I’m gonna miss…” He coughs. “…your beer.”

Yes, I think Xander and Riley had the potential for a much deeper connection and friendship than they were ever given the opportunity to develop - I think we saw hints a few times that Xander definitely "got" Riley more than Buffy did.
