Philly Trip Report and the rest of January

For New Year's weekend, I drove with a friend up to Philly to visit jeneralist and the rest of her household, along with folks visiting from New England, Merry Olde England, other parts of PA, etc.  It was a fun house party weekend to ring in the new year, with board/card games (e.g., Qwirkle, Aquarius), music, geeky conversations ranging from the golden age

Oops, meant to reply to this before! There are Field Roast sausages that work very well as meat substitutes; I just sliced them up and put them in at the same time as the quick-cooked black-eyed peas. Did you want the whole recipe? I mostly look at the package on the bag of peas (one brand has Hoppin' John directions) and improvise, but I could give a guess at what I did.
