let the hurricane set in motion

I keep on trying to sit down and PROCESS. Really, the trip has been amazing. It's changed my life. I wish that I could really write it without restraint, but it's non-private. I apologize if there are few feelings put into these entries. It's really quite hard to write about and understand because it's just been so much. It feels so overwhelming to ( Read more... )

Incredible and detailed post! It will take ME some processing to process YOUR thoughts and experiences. ;) I'm glad you had a great experience and made a difference. what you did rocked, and so will the future plans and activities you are considering.

Now if only other law students could follow your suit!

thank you for the article! I haven't read it yet, but do you mind if I forward it out to the rest of the group if it's thought provoking.

Thanks for your support. I wish that more law students would follow suit. I hope to think that it's because they are simply unaware. I was unaware. And if they become aware, they'd be willing to do something about it.

cooter browns? i love that place.

glad you enjoyed your trip. it's hard, sometimes, to describe to someone why i can't leave this place. i know i will someday, but right now...i just can't.

i never really realized or noticed the racial things you described being Indian here, but I guess that's my ignorant white privledge. There's even the hispanic box these days that it's normal to fit into. And I hate to say it, but the only people I can think of anywhere close to Indian are the guys that run the convenience stores. I was seriously racking my brain when i read that and that's all I could come up with. Wow.

Yes! That is where we went! We made fun of the name the entire time though. And actually, I thought the food was pretty good I had a shrimp po-boy. But everyone else had somewhat mixed reviews.

Yeah, I agree. I think that there has been a huge influx of the Latino population to NOLA, sadly it really wasn't the part of the population that I got to spend much time with (re: research & work & fun). However, you're right. I saw a few indian law students (from other schools) and a lone cab driver (who of course asked me if I was indian, and what I was doing in NOLA and if I spoke Hindi), who we happened across twice in our stay.

Cooter Brown's has a good selection of food and most of it's pretty good. Also have a fantastic beer selection. I haven't been there since the NBA playoffs. Just not my end of town anymore.

A very interesting read... I found my way here via ADL and since I live in New Orleans I wanted to check out your experience. Thanks so much for donating your time!

Thanks for reading and stopping by. I hope that you enjoyed hearing about the experience, it was amazing.

I am hopefully going to continue work with Katrina Evacuees in Houston & The Student Hurricane Network.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts on what's going to happen to the city though and what it's been like for you since you have moved back.
