She’d been alone in her office for hours, half asleep and generally not caring about the Christmas Party. There’d be plenty more, and she just wasn’t in the mood for a party. CJ leant back in her chair and stared at the phone. It was too late to ring the home and ask after her father, and yet it was too early to leave the event altogether. She rested her head against her desk, turning away from the phone and watching Gail swim instead. Christmas wasn’t the same without calling her father, and for weeks she’d been scared to do so.
“Need a bit of a pick-me up?” She stood in the doorway, a light green dress caressing her body and a bottle of red wine in her hand.
“I need a kick up the ass,” CJ whined, not bothering to move. “I need someone to tell me that my father will be heart-broken if I don’t call him soon, and lead me to believe it.”
“I can do that,” There was a strong possibility she was drunk, but neither of them seemed to care. She glided into the room, closing the door behind her. “I can make anybody believe anything.” It seemed the closer she got, the more interest CJ took.
“You work in politics, that was a given.” Sitting back in her chair, CJ took in her friend’s appearance.
“I can make it all better,” She placed the bottle of wine on the desk, and leant on the arms of CJ’s chair. “Trust me.” She took CJ’s hands in her own and led her back towards the couch. Their mouths collided as they fell onto the couch, their hands caressed every inch of each others bodies.
“Wow,” CJ paused, pushing herself up. Their eyes locked, and she smiled. “Well, I certainly see why eighty five percent of Maryland votes for you.”
