[Today, Estelle's cheerfulness sounds forced.]

Yuri, Estelle, Flynn... A young boy named Dave might be staying with us from time to time. I hope that's okay! There are so many empty rooms in this place that I didn't think anyone would mind.

[A short pause.]

I hope everyone is all right. The curse yesterday was... Strange.

[And really ( Read more... )

[The curse yesterday sucked, Estelle. And Guy doesn't know her well enough to say for sure but he's generally perceptive. She sounds... Upset.]

Yesterday was a bit... Invasive. How are you doing, Estelle?

[Well they all need to cheer up, right? What better way then together!]

[He guessed, but no one ever flat said they were all from the same world. It makes sense though.] Sounds like tension can't be helped no matter what the world.

What are the Guilds like?

Oh, there are a lot of guilds! Each of them is different. There are two guild cities, though: Nordopolica and Dahngrest. Nordopolica is run by Pallestrale, and is known for it's Coliseum and fighting competitions. Dahngrest is run by Altosk and is something of a headquarters for the guilds, all of which answer to the five master guilds. Altosk and Pallestrale are two of these. Each guild has a different function, and some are more specialized than others.

That sounds pretty interesting! What do Altosk and Pallestrale specialize in?

[Action!] why are you asking me questions I can't answer. Also I fucked up whoops retcon. selenoscape May 29 2011, 19:04:55 UTC
For the most part, they simply keep the other guilds in line. The other four master guilds are much more specialized. Ruin's Gate excavates ruins for blastia, Blood Alliance is an assassin's guild, Soul Smiths is a blacksmithing guild, and Fortune's Market is a merchant's guild.

[She sighs.]

Yes. Unfortunately, the Guilds are not under the Empire's jurisdiction. There's a thieves' guild as well.

I guess in a way it's better to have it regulated by guilds.

Yes, in some ways, it's much better. Is there anything similar in your world?

Hm. Not really. Both Kimlasca and Malkuth regulate crime but mostly people's lives are run by the Score.

Run by it? In what way?

[Oops, slip of the tongue...] Haha well... The Score is the planet's memory, both of the past and future. A Scorer can read a person's Score to tell them how they'll lead their life...

[Perfectly fine with this, really. Not at all completely unsure of this practice of dictating choices before they're made.]

[Ooooh look, Estelle doesn't like it either! Her brows knit together.]

Really? But... Doesn't that mean people can't make their own choices?

[That is because Estelle is an hero!]

You could definitely look at it that way.

I'm... Not sure I could live like that.

[To be fair he hasn't had his own score read since he was tiny.]

A lot of people can't imagine living any other way. It... [No, stops himself. Smiles instead.] It doesn't matter here. There's no Score, after all.
