It was then did Shiro truly panic.

There stood Kuro with his sword raised, and strangely, he can't find his voice to warn Balmung about the attack. It was quick, the bringing down of the sword, blood spluttered at his face as he stared horrifyingly as Balmung coughed a mouthful of blood, sword embedded deep in his chest.

"Neh, I always wonder where your core is, Balmung-san. I always want to crash it into pieces."

The demon twisted the sword, making blood spurt, staining Shiro even more with his Tennou's blood. The voice echoed dully in Shiro's ears though. He didn't bother the demon in front of them and was about to grasp Balmung's dying body when the demon suddenly plunge his hand into Balmung's open wound, making the Tennou scream, the sound of organs and a core disturbed.

'Stop...'

Crimson eyes stared wildly at the scene in front of him, at the wide eyes of Balmung, at the sick satisfaction in Kuro's eyes. As fast as he plunge his arm in, he quickly pulled it back, along with a shining ball of sphere. Balmung's core.

"Damn you..."

As he mutters the words, his body slumped forward and grasp Shiro's shoulder. With a sad smile, he gazed at still wide crimson eyes, now stained with tears.

"Guess it really is my time... Be strong, 'kay?"

He's admitting defeat so easily already. Shiro stared at those dying golden eyes, as the last of Balmung's feather falls. It landed right beside his sword, blood staining the tip.

"Oi.. Don't leave me... Balmung..."

He would have continued pleading, if it wasn't for Kuro to loom over them, the sphere still shining, even though its light is starting to diminish.

"Time's up, lovebirds. Better say your goodbyes now."

Insane obsidian orbs wickedly grinned at Shiro, until finally, the sphere cracked and burst. With his final breath, Balmung whispered two words that will never leave Shiro's mind.

He stared at the dead body of his lover. A white light started to glow around Balmung's body though, when Shiro realized what's happening; Balmung is a Tennou, and every Tennou who dies becomes an aeon. He shamelessly let his tears fall as he clutched the Tennou's body tighter, until finally, Balmung's body begin to vanish part by part until nothing is left but feathers.

He stared at his hands; his very bloody hands, and suddenly he felt that deep burning rage inside of him. His beloved had left him, no one will be around to comfort him anymore, no one will love him anymore.

Letting out a loud scream, Shiro released every strength that was left of him. A wild fire was formed, enveloping him as two phoenixes rise above him; Dronza and Grandia. Red blending with gold perfectly, his strength now starting to return to his body.

"You took away my angel..."

When Kuro saw the sudden change of aura from the knight, he knew something was wrong. He quickly took a step back and was ready to flee when the flames suddenly surrounded him.

"You took away my love..."

He heard his heart beating wildly, and with all of his strength left, Kuro tried his hardest to get out of the ring of fire. He didn't notice though that Shiro was already advancing towards him. He swung his sword here and there, but it did nothing to at least weaken the fire.

"You took away my Balmung."

He spun around when he heard that voice being so near and met with burning red eyes. Like what he did to Balmung, a hand suddenly grabbed his face and soon, he realized his doomed.

"And you will suffer."

It was that night when Shiro let out all of his anger, all of his sadness. It was that night when Zide knew just how precious Balmung is to Shiro. It was that night when Niebel saw a sea of fire. It was that night when Chronos cried after hundreds of millenniums.
